I guess we all get old...

I'm sitting here listening to the title cut off the album Disintegration by The Cure... what a wonderful, haunting piece of music.

The TeeWee was on late one night here at Roseholme Cottage not too long back, and The Cure was the guest act on Late Night Of The Even Later Tonight Show With Some Guy...

Boy, Robert Smith is looking really, really very fat and unwell. The waif-y, goth-y, disheveled, schmeared makeup look that was so cute and swoonworthy when I was barely out of high school does not look good on a pudgy middle-aged guy who's about to have a fender bender with the big five-oh. And this makes me feel old.

I don't even want to see a current photo of Jimmy Page...

Sigh... Just sweepin' the streets I used to own, I guess.

But ya know-- Robert Smith was always kind of doughy, in a way. The music is still sublime, though, and that's all that matters.

Come to that, last time I listened to Disintegration in its entirety I was driving through the desert on a moonless night with only the occasional bypassing train to keep me company. Timelessly beautiful music for all seasons.

Too bad Robert couldn't age as well as the rest of us. ;)

wv - pefugger - isn't that illegal in Texas?

Funny -- I was listening to the Cure just yesterday, singing along to "Just Like Heaven..."

Anon 8:51,

I so did not need that.

I'm off to open a vein now...

Could be worse. Could be Eddie Van Halen...

"*The* Zaphod Beeblebrox?"

"No, just *a* Zaphod Beeblebrox; didn't you hear I come in six packs?"

JayG,
I think Eddie discovered the secret to accelerated aging in his home chemistry experiments.

I dunno which is worse: chubby ol' guys doing revival stuff or heroin-mummified gangling animated zombies, jerking around to music that i can now no longer remember fondly.

Eddie v H had a hard bout with mouth cancer. Cancer really ages anyone who survives it. Witness Patrick Swayze. Robert Smith has been looking disheveled since the early 90's. I hear Peter Murphy is still wire thin, but he's also a devout Muslim nowadays.

wv: thinglo, a chem-light?

I remember Bob Smith being porky some years ago. In a way, it's very apropos. "so it's all coming back now to breaking apart again, breaking apart like I'm made up of glass again..."

If the lights are still up on the trees around the Circle downtown, go drive around and around the circle at midnight while playing "The Same Deep Water As You". You'll feel very 15.

I feel old, too.

Liberty Girl caught the "really very, very fat and unwell" reference for the win. :D

Jimmy Page actually looks like an old woman these days. He's going to have to buy the elevator to heaven because I don't think he'll be able to handle the stairway.

I wanted to BE Zaphod when I grew up.

Their last release was suprisingly good though...

Robert Smith aged badly. I blame the English diet.

That said, he started looking like that a LONG time before he was old.

I just hope I don't have to go to another farewell tour related concert. At this point it's more of an obligation than pleasure.

Sweeping the streets with a leafblower! I tried to do the Music-Meme that Borepatch tagged on me, and wound up only half-way or so, crawling through fragrant dumpsters of swoon, looking for a harpoon or a boomstick.
That old yellow-brick road is fingernails on a blackboard if you look too close.
