Not my day...

Proof that the universe hates my guts:

I arrive at the Indy airport to find that the puddlejumper to Cleveland has been canked. United sends me to US Airways, for a flight connecting through DC.

Except US Airways can't find the reservation.

After it gets ironed out, I go through the Porn-O-Scan, and cool my heels for ten minutes while they decide if they want to mess with my Glock or not. (Glock: The disposable pistol for travelers! If you wind up diverted to NYC you can just say "Screw it" and ditch the heater without regrets.)

I get to the concourse and note that my phone is down to about 30%  charge and the charger is in my checked baggage.

Boot up the Eee and discover that IND has managed to ghey up their wi-fi access since 2010, adding all kinds of mandatory ads and crap.

Further, the New! Improved! Blogger interface is no longer compatible with the Eeebuntu version of Firefox I'm using. It wanted me to download Chrome, but Chrome wouldn't install.

So I'm typing this on a screen layout that looks like a Dadaist version of a web form, and now I'm just going to start clicking the cursor randomly around the screen and hope one of these pixels is hiding the "Publish" butto

Ohh, that's where I left my Monday. See that you have it pressed and ironed before you send it back.

Well, of course it's disposable, it's made out of plastic and ceramic.

Anything is disposable, especially if diverted (intentionally or not) out of America.

Safe trip!

Glock 19 makes a nice loaner gun. When friends fly in from less then gun friendly places, they get a G19 or 26, ammo, spare magazine and holster.

I've borrowed the same when I had to connect through, LA, Baltimore or NYC.

It nice to have gunnie friends.

Cheer up, just remember two things.

1. Some minimum wage rent a cop just saw your junk.

2. There is now a picture of your junk on .gov computers.

You're welcome, I'm here to help.

Sounds like it sucks to be you today. Happy travels.

There's a Linux version of Chrome?

Either that or a very elaborate hoax.

Since I couldn't get it installed, I couldn't tell you which...

There sure it. Works really well to as its about the only stable browser that handles Flash without trying to untangle your very own Gordian Knot by compiling your own Flash plugin for Firefox.

Highly recommended.

Looking forward to meeting you next Saturday, Tam!

I love actually flying in an airplane but I'm willing to drive just about anywhere these days just to avoid the modern airport/security/lost luggage experience.
Safe Journey.

I forgot my AT&T 'device' that allows me to purchase 'Data minutes' for the interweb on my most recent excursion.

That was a mistake. I had to DO the courtesy airport fiasco. Not going to do that again.

I feel your pain and have a safe trip (I just hope you don't have a connection through Boston, NYC or Newark)...

All The Best,
Frank W. James

If I got rerouted through NY, I'd just leave the bag there and report it as "lost" once I made it to my final destination. It'd be their responsibility to get it to me then. And they'd be falling over themselves to find that lost bag w/ a gun in it.

Not the whole Universe...just most of it! :-)

I had a better wi-fi experience on the beijing airport... mind you I couldn't access news of my hometown because it's name is Falun. In european airports, free wi-fi is rare, the only free wi-fi in Arlanda(Stockholm, Sweden) is provided by McDonalds of all things. Shiphol(Amsterdam, Holland) has no free wi-fi.

I'm confused. You go to the Airport, check your Tupperware into Baggage, go through the unregulated Radiation Spreader, then you get hassled about your Glock, which is in THEIR Custody?

What was the Problem? Someone said you should be carrying a 1911?

Further proof that netbooks are the devil and Linux is a terrible end-user OS.

Also, Flash is multiple devils.

(Disclosure: I've got a netbook, and I've run Linux for over 15 years.

But the netbook was retired when I got an 11" MacBook Air, and I only run Linux as a server solution.

Because I'm not a masochist.)

I found a cheap iBook PowerPC based laptop last year ($75), put LinuxMint PPC on it and use it to travel with. That's because my $1500 laptop has client info on it and I don't want to let the TSA thieving ring who gets it to have all my confidential stuff.

It worked pretty well on my last international trip, unlike my "global" phone that Verizon couldn't activate for Europe for a week and a half...

I know I said I wouldn't comment any more here except for gun nerd posts, but I do beg your pardon for presuming to say that I concur absolutely, thoroughly, compendiously, and enthusiastically with your opinion about the latest Google hijinks. If it ain't busted, don't fix it.

Blogger worked "well enough", and that's doing pretty well for this here vale of tears.

For future travel with the WeeBook, pack a USB-to-phone port dongle cord, and charge from your laptop.

Antibubba,

"For future travel with the WeeBook, pack a USB-to-phone port dongle cord..."

I did. It was in my checked bag right next to the Eee's AC adapter. :o
