Halftime pep talk in the Notre Dame locker room...

And the last thing he said to me -- "Rock," he said - "sometime, when the team is up against it -- and the breaks are beating the boys -- tell them to go out there with all they got and please just get somewhere even close to the point spread for the Gipper..."
To steal a line from a Tweet I saw scroll past last night: "World's Largest Religion: 14, Alabama's Largest Religion: 42" (My other favorite? Whoever Tweeted "They should change their name to Notre Ame, because they have no D.")

I thought it was right classy of Nick Saban to give the water boys some playing time there at the end...

*Sigh* ... and that's what college football is going to look like until someone (ha) convinces the SEC to stop oversigning.

In the last four years, Nick Saban has recruited five classes of players. Notre Dame was only allowed to have four.

It's amazing what a good coach can do with that extra talent.

Yrro,

"It's amazing what a good coach can do with that extra talent."

Yup. For instance, he can get 300% of the points with only 120% of the recruiting classes.

Catholics vs criminals ordinarily results in Catholics getting beat. Why is this news?

My favorite tweet of the night:

@OldHossRadbourn
Irishmen in my day were a filthy, inbred, mongrel race of wastrels. But they did not lay down to secessionists.

(Full disclosure: I'm an Alabama alum and lifetime fan...still funny.)

LOL, I gave it up at halftime and went to bed...

Wow, I saw that score last night and thought "Finally! An embarrassing scandal that the Church can't just sweep under the rug," and yet there you go...

I knew that Notra Dame was waving the red flag at the bull when they elected to kick off instead of receive when they won the coin toss.

Oh, I'm sure Saban would have at least one national championship ring regardless. The dude is a hell of a coach, and everyone knows there's no faster way to be overrated than "be Notre Dame." Florida sure as hell didn't need oversigning to beat the crap out of my Buckeyes in 2007 to start this whole mess off. But Alabama's continued level of dominance isn't just Saban being God's (or the Devil's, take your pick) gift to college football.

Two things to be proud of if you are from Alabama:

Alabama football

You don't live in Mississippi

They played the University of Iowa?

I thought it was nice to invite the coach of now the only undefeated team in college football (Urban Meyer) to give some commentary at the "National Championship" game.

And the lion lay down with the lamb, and said, "That looks like good eatin'", and the lamb said "BAAAMmmph!"

So since receiving an esophageal cancer diagnosis on Dec 31, this 'Bama alum has finally had two good things happen. First, the PET scan came back with a "no distant disease" result, which was like the best news evar, and then last night's whomping. Still not looking forward to six weeks of chemo and radiation, followed by the attention of the cutters at UAB, but I've sure as shit still got a smile on my face this morning.

That thing looked like a bad movie:

"Choirboys meet Deliverance"

After Notre Dame's embarrassment, they might realize that the BCS is s joke. How the Hell can a team that went into 3 overtimes v. Pitt get ranked number 1? They need playoffs and this 'every body gets a trophy*' nonsense doesn't belong in college ball.

* everyone but ND since they don't play in a conference.

Gerry/Anon.: H.L. Mencken once said that he had never met anyone in his life dumber than a Mississippi Black man, except a Mississippi White man.

Of course, he was from South Carolina. I guess everybody has somebody to pick on.

The Germans have Bavarians, The Irish have Kerrymen, the Italians have Sicilians, and this year the Tide has Notre Dame.

Sorry Father Murphy, "Choirboys meet Deliverance" seems to be the winner.

Oregon would have given the Tide a run for their money.

(Sigh) What is it with sports media's hormone crush on the Cowboys and Norte Dame?

I am an ND fan, the best comment I heard the next day, "Notre Dame came to play, Alabama came to WIN!"

Well, not having been present at the game while wearing a band uniform, I don't give a shit about the outcome of the game.

What is it with you people? Obviously, the purpose of feetball games is to allow bandsmen to strut their stuff in the pregame show and the halftime show!
