Gratuitous Gun Pr0n #91...

Oof.
Engraved Bisley eye candy from the RIA display at the NRA Annual Meeting. In .38-40, no less, which is the 19th Century gun hipster cartridge par excellence, being a sort of rimmed, bottlenecked ballistic twin of the ultimate gun hipster cartridge, 10mm Auto. (I once had a Vaquero with .38-40 and 10mm cylinders. We called it the Space Cowboy.)

I think owning at least one O.G. Colt SAA should be on every gun nut's bucket list.

Too many digits to the left of the decimal point for my wallet to survive any encounter with a Colt SAA.

Purty to look at, though.

Yeah, even a shooter-grade beater is middlin' custom 1911 money these days. But still...

Don't know about a SAA.. way too expensive for me. I think I could make do with a polished SS new model Ruger Vaquero though..

I would still like to find a nice 4 inch Police Positive. Preferably in 38 Special. I never really cared for the SSA's but I do like the black powder guns. Especially the Walker Dragoon. Now we're talking some money.

i'm crushed. i thot .32-20 was the top gun hipster cartridge. i'll need new guns now. :(

The .38-40 apes the .40 S&W far more than it does the 10mm. Out of a handgun, anyway.

Hipster? Psshaw!

38-40 was John Wayne's favorite cartridge. And no hipsters, antebellum or otherwise, were allowed in his presence.

I missed out on the meaning of O.G.

Can some kind soul educate me, having been raised by wolves in NY and CA?

As a Glock 20 owner I've no shame in being a 10mm lover. But it's mighty ironic that finding 10mm would actually be easier than finding .38-40 ammo anyplace. And are Ruger Vaqueros rated for full power 10mm ammo anyway?

As my dad used to say "those are doctor and lawyer guns"*

My father was a very wise man, poor, but wise.

Tom,

"And are Ruger Vaqueros rated for full power 10mm ammo anyway?"

Since Vaqueros (the old ones, anyway) were available in .44 Magnum, yes, they will handle mousegun rounds like 10mm Norma just fine. ;)

Have a Gen three? Cavalry model I bought in the Seventies in Weisbaden Germany At the Rod and gun club.

We've got a Bisley .38WCF sitting at the shop right now (although without the factory engraving). Still costs a pretty penny though :/

10mm is the ultimate gun hipster cartridge? I disagree; that position is more likely held by .41 AE.
