"[E]very person within the state of Idaho is and shall be free to choose or decline to choose any mode of securing health care services without penalty or threat of penalty."Hard not to see where that one's aimed.
Meanwhile, apparently running over a list of federal installations in their state and finding that not one of them is named "Sumter", the Idaho legislature returned to the paper front and is now mulling the passage of HB 633, a "measure that would allow Idaho citizens to pay their state taxes with an official state silver medallion."
When I read stuff like this, I've half a mind to pack up my wookie suit and head for the Bitterroots.
(h/t for the latter story to SurvivalBlog.)
Idaho is looking better all the time. They've decided to "hold the line" and NOT raise taxes in this economic down turn... The polar opposite of what my state is doing...
ReplyDeleteHeard that.
ReplyDeleteCome on up (to Montana, anyway)...
ReplyDeleteBut there is a pesky section or two in the US Constitution:
Article I Section 10: "No state shall....coin money...."
and the 10th Amendment "The powers delegated to the United States...."
Y'know, I've always liked the sound of Coeur d'Alene, and it's fun to say too.
ReplyDeleteAnd I loves me some taters.
Doc, easy to get around that coinage thing just by using pre '65 coins that wooks've been hoarding anyway.
Idaho ho!
AT
Flight-ER-Doc - If Congress is going to ignore most of the Constitution, why not the whole thing?
ReplyDeleteThe first to pass such a bill of thirty seven states considering it.
ReplyDeleteOf course, even if all the thirty seven pass such a bill, that will still leave a majority of twenty states that approve of the Nanny State. By Obama's reckoning.
I suppose that is the "new math."

"the Idaho state legislature has beaten Congress to the punch with the "Get Bent, D.C." Act of '10, which the governor of the Gem State has already signed into law."
ReplyDeleteVirginia's is on it's way to the governor.
HB10:
No resident of this Commonwealth, regardless of whether he has or is eligible for health insurance coverage under any policy or program provided by or through his employer, or a plan sponsored by the Commonwealth or the federal government, shall be required to obtain or maintain a policy of individual insurance coverage. No provision of this title shall render a resident of this Commonwealth liable for any penalty, assessment, fee, or fine as a result of his failure to procure or obtain health insurance coverage.
You gotta love it when the states tell Congress to get bent before Congress even gets the law in question passed.
Join us! I love living in Idaho. Permissive gun laws, lots of wilderness, cheap real estate, and low taxes.
ReplyDeleteI'm also thrilled that our House passed a bill prohibiting the insta-strip search machines from the Boise airport. Time to call my senator and make sure he's supporting the bill too.
Bram, good point. Especially Article 4, Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence.
ReplyDeleteIf the States want to put some teeth into these laws, they should prohibit the use of State Law Enforcement personnel or facilities by Federal agents. They can arrest as many people as they please, but what do they do with the prisoners when the jail turns them away?
ReplyDeleteLotsa good off-road riding in the Sawtooths. Elmer Keith lived up on the other side.
ReplyDeleteHere's an example of teeth for you, courtesy the State of Wyoming:
ReplyDeleteAny official, agent or employee of the United States government who enforces or attempts to enforce any act, order, law, statute, rule or regulation of the United States government upon a personal firearm, a firearm accessory or ammunition that is manufactured commercially or privately in Wyoming and that remains exclusively within the borders of Wyoming shall be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction, shall be subject to imprisonment for not more than two (2) years, a fine of not more than ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00), or both.
Might not stand up in court, but it sends a signal, doesn't it?
If Idaho wants to really get in the face of the FedGov and assert its sovereignty it oughta try passing a bill that takes back ALL government land in the name of the citizens of Idaho. The state has one of the highest percentages of Fed land ownership of all the states.
ReplyDeleteThe Idaho made gun bill, the No Mandatory healthcare srewing bill, and the pay your taxes in bullion bill are all fine and good. But proclaiming the land belongs to Idaho and the citizens belong to themselves... that would be serious juju.
Well, a wook can dream, eh?
Doff the suit, and grab a brick.

ReplyDeleteThey're moving the ball in the right direction for a change, so I'm not going to grump because they're not going for the Hail Mary.
I'd like Tinkerbell to wave a magic wand and dispel a hundred and fifty years of patient Fabian encroachment in one cloud of glittery sprinkles, but I'll cheer whatever victories I get.
Friends,
ReplyDeleteThe Idaho legislature isn't going to coin the money themselves (hence the term 'medallions'), so Art I sec 10 isn't applicable.
Frankly, I'd love to see a state/municipality dust off the rest of Art I Sec 10 and say, "Go-lllllly Sarge. Lookee here. It says he HAVE to require people to use gold and silver coin to pay their taxes." THAT would be the 'get bent' telegraph to DC.
Since when is a silver medallion the same as coinage? Mint a necklace medallion that happens to come sans chain and is used to pay taxes. Sounds damn good to me.
ReplyDeleteIn fact Idaho is sound pretty damn good all around right now. I'll be interested to see if similar legislation will be introduced in next year's legislative session.

And there's some awesome motorcycling in Idaho, but paved and off-road.
ReplyDeleteI usually make the trip out there several times a year.
5 years, and the SO and i will most likely be out there. Boise's looking better and better.

Jeezis lady, where do you get these smarmy quips?
Sorry guys but wer'e full up. Move along nothing to see here, but I hear Kalifornia is REAL nice.
ReplyDeleteidahohunter: The caltards are moving in regardless of what you say.
ReplyDeleteDo you want conservatives and libertarians moving in as well, or not?
Yeah, hearing stuff like that is enough to make one think "Leave him to the San Franciscans."
ReplyDeleteWhy do you want to leave where you are? Has it gotten so bad it is no longer tolerable? Has the left taken over and is now telling you how to live? Want to see who is responsible? Find a mirror. Thanks we dont need your help
ReplyDeleteWant to see a clueless 'tard? Find a mirror. You need help, alright...but like most delusionals, you just don't know it.
ReplyDeleteI understand your attitude and even shared it back in the day when I could camp and ride my dirt bike up and down the beach from Palm Beach all the way south to Lauderdale. It's futile of course, and now you'd be lucky to even see the beach as you cruise down A1A, and if you're going to live there, you might want to brush up on foreign languages, like Spanish and NewYawkese.
Like most natives, I escaped years ago into the still (somewhat) Southern Fla Heartland. Man, I wish we could have attracted the folks represented in this blog to Palm Beach County, and it would still be my home.
Enjoy the takeover by the huggers, and I hope you're not too attached to that hunting thing; that'll be first on their list of "change".
AT
A,T, The reason Idaho seems atractive is because, unlike you We natives have spent untold amounts of time and capital teaching the influx to assimilate and not try and make it into what they just left. Yes we have had a lage increase in "immigration" as have other places. But we are not looking to leave. Others are looking to come. You admit you failed to do the same, What help can you give us?
ReplyDeleteContinued:
ReplyDeleteYes we have a lot of huggers, but we roped them off in the nort end of Boise and they have had minnimum influence on our way of life. Wolf hunting, recent bill of interstate gun rights, asnd the subject of this article. come if you want, just don't expect us to welcome people who gave upthe fight where they were born as allies in the fight where we were born
"idahohunter",
ReplyDeleteUp to now, I had never seen a man autofellate in public before. Thank you for the novel experience.
Tam
ReplyDeleteleave me to the San Franciscan's? Do you mean a bunch of fags armed with dildos? Gee, I don't know what I would do. "Butt" something tells me I would come out the "backside" of that situation just fine. However your concern is really touching.
Tam
ReplyDeletethe intelegence of your last post astounds me. No room for dissenting opinions here. Tam's way or the highway. Well when you can't argue intellegently, you can always just start name calling, it's worked for the libs for years
Uh, who started name-calling?
ReplyDelete"Find a mirror", indeed. :p
Where did I make any personal attack on you, or any comment on this thread?
ReplyDeleteSorry I may have suggested that the people who live in a certain area are responsible for the local .gov they have. But for you to sugguest that was name calling or a personal attack....
ReplyDeleteThere are several gun business (UltiMak, CCI, Speer, and Nightforce come immediately to mind and I know there are others) in the area. If you and/or Roberta wish to make the move let me know and I can provide some introductions as well give you some once a year employment making reactive targets for Boomershoot.
ReplyDeleteActually, there is no problem with Idaho wanting payment in bullion.
ReplyDeleteSo long as they do it by weight.
Tam, we just moved to North Idaho, and we love it.
ReplyDelete'bout 90 miles north of Joe actually.
