I think Elmo's point should be spread far and wide, and a demand for equal treatment made. To take it a step further, there should be a 10-day (or whatever the regional requirement is) waiting period for buy-backs before money is exchanged.
"Buy back" sounds a lot more friendly than "Surrender your freedom for a pittance."
