Urk. My back.

My 19" ViewSonic monitor had gotten so dim and murky that it was almost impossible to read black text on a white background, so this morning I sadly unplugged it and (*heave!*) lugged it back into storage. Luckily, a fresh monitor (*heft!*) was only as far away as the "guest PC", an old Celeron that sits on a desk back to back with the big machine at VFTP Command Central. Only one problem: The backup monitor is a Mitsubishi 17" tube. I hadn't quite realized how spoiled I'd gotten over the last few years. I remember when a 17" monitor was a big deal; now, after four years of the 19" screen, the little Mitsu feels like squinting at a postage stamp.

I'd run out and buy a new big monitor, but that'll have to wait; I'm taking my disposable cash and my '43 Remington 03A3 to the shop to trade them in on something cool that walked in the door yesterday. What could make Tam trade off a classic bolt-action military rifle? Watch This Space for details. :)

  1. I guess what you're saying is that, umm, size does matter.

  2. 19"?? I'm reading this on a 21" - they still make them smaller???

  3. Got any guns you'd trade for a 19"?

I'm planning to move to LCDs eventually, but I could be convinced to hurry up, and this 2-year-old 19" CRT can't just sit in my closet...

Dear Lord... the verification word looks daunting today, I'm not sure I can do it. Here goes...

  5. Of course, it's easy when YOU do it, but mine was like a jlaiqtvwvv.

I love the way that the difference between a 'q' and an 'a' is about four pixels...

Good thing I have my luxuriously large screen. Hah!

But the worst part is that I got the horribly complex captcha correctly typed in, only to mess up my password. Sigh.

  7. Well.

    If you would trade an 03A3 for it, I'll assume it's a gold-plated, rhinestone-encrusted, belt-fed quad 50 rig.

With a lifetime supply of ammo.

Or, maybe an unfired Garand still in its original box and cosmoline.

Tam, you really have to start appreciating your audience. Some of us might offer to cash out things like your 03A3 so you could indulge.

And, after we're married, you could still shoot the 03A3.... and I could pull the trigger now and then on the quad 50 rig.

Now, THAT'S something that would impress the neighbors. Or, at least make them move......

  8. If you are going to be in the market for a new one... LCDs have made huge gains lately. Surprisngly, a few select Dell LCDs are starting to be rated as highly as the much-vaunted Apple Cinema displays (which tend to cost several grand and are so good that if even with a PC, like I have, you'd want one of them as your monitor). Anyway, right now Dell has some of their (typical) great specials going. If you can find a coupon code online you can get them for even less... but the 20" is really the one you want to get:

But just in case you can't, here is a link for a 19":
