...and neatly coincides with payday, to boot, and I haven't got a clue what to get. We've got some milsurps in at work, No.4 MkI's rescued from Pakistan and some pretty clean 91/30's, and that'd make a good fallback option.
Hmmm. Believe it or not, I don't own an Enfield No.4 Mk.I; I have a No.4, but it's an unissued postwar Fazakerly Mk.II.
Well, that kinda makes my decision simpler, now that I think about it, doesn't it?
(Of course, the optimal situation would be for my supplier to come through on some promised Mk.III* SMLE's...)
So those came from Pakistan? That'd explain the Arabic writing on the stock of the No. 5 I bought Friday.
ReplyDeleteI did a quicky clean up of the metal and stock and it came out nicely, BTW, without removing the Arabic (which I think is a cool part of the gun's history.
Yeah, and you got the real No.5, too!
ReplyDeleteI have a #4mk1...would much prefer a mk1* or a mk2. If you have leads on those, I'd like to know.
ReplyDeleteI got a pretty decent Mk III SMLE (Lithgow) from J&G Gund in Prescott, AZ when I lived there a few years ago. DEcent shape ans a sweet shooter... For $98.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I had to sell it.. It was one of the things I let go during my divorce. I'd like to get another one at some point. Drop me a line if you get some. I'd be interested in doing business.
Gund = Guns
ReplyDeleteI'm not awake yet.
Oleg,

We have some Mk.I*'s in stock. Call the shop. Or come visit. Or something.
(This is not altruism on my part. I need a fresh photo, dude; the one in my profile is like three years old and forty pounds heavy!)
I'll come visit.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of movies, I should bring you the AVI of "9th company" (9ya rota) -- though without subtitles or dubbing, you might still enjoy it. Well-done battle scenes c.1988 Afghanistan.
A buddy of mine tends to clean up in our WWII Bolt Action Rifle match with a fresh-from-aresenal No.4 MkI - maybe it's a Mk II I dunno for sure, it's practically like cheating. Beats the hell out of my old Krag anyhow.
ReplyDeleteHi , If you look carefully at the writing you will probably see that it is'nt Arabic , but one of the Indian languages such as Hindi/Tamil or Pushtu etc. They have some superficial resemblance to Arabic.
