Politics: Rudyard Kipling in New Orleans.

From "The Gods of the Copybook Headings":
As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the idjits in New Orleans, dumbass Nagin will re-hire;

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will bum,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return.

  1. They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Heading said: "Stick to the Devil you know."

  2. The government, since the '60's, has rewarded incompetence and irresponsibility.
    Its called welfare.
The government, since the '70's, has used racism instead of ability as a system
    of reward.
    Its called affirmative action.
The government, since the '80's, has placed a 'one-way emphasis' on certain crimes,
and by extension, has de-emphasised exactly similiar crimes, based on race or sexual preference.
    Its called 'hate crimes'
The government, since the '90's, has destroyed the result-based value system, instead determining worthiness by race or sex.
    This is called 'Politically Correct'
The government, in hurricane Katrina, showed a remarkable willingness to punish the
prepared, reward the incompetent, ignore the corrupt and blame the innocent.
    This is called Madness

  3. I value this poem so much, I've made it's 5th stanza(quoted by Marc) my signature line on THR.org.

It is almost painfully embarrassing to see renewed proof of our fellow Americans' inability to learn from history, and thus be condemned to repeat it.

"By their fruits you shall know them..."

  4. "Holy State or Holy King-

    Or holy People's Will-

Have no truck with the senseless thing.

    Order the guns and kill!"

From McDonagh's song, another good Kipling poem. My wife swears she will have it engraved on my tombstone.
