Books: Domestic Enemies update.

I'm on page 415, sitting on the front porch. There's cold cervazas in the fridge. Memories of my Terlingua vacation are drifting behind my eyes.

Allen Wayne Damron's Gringo Pistolero is playing softly from the boom box.

On my hip is a big Colt automatic, and on the bench next to me is a Springfield '03. Its sights are set to 800.

Life may be better somewhere, but I'll want to see proof. ;)

  1. When did you visit Terlingua? I bet it wasn't as lush and verdant as it is right now. We been gittin a lots of rain this past couple weeks. Didja stop in Alpine for a beer at the Edelweiss brewpub?

  3. I happily suspended belief, in my usual fashion, and thoroughly enjoyed DE. I will say that at some point I was reminded of "The Perils of Pauline", however. :)

Rain? In Terlingua? Well, yeah. I was gonna go to Ojinaga for house paint and other shopping, Monday of last week. Oops! Terlingua Creek was on a rise, and I blew off Monday. Tuesday, no less mud at the crossing. Tuesday night, 0.4". Yuck. Got onto other projects; still no house paint. Oh, well. In Terlingua, maƱana doesn't mean "tomorrow"; it just means "not today".

Damron's been gone just over a year, now. I still really do miss the coffee-klatches. Marie's getting all his music remastered for CDs, including the early stuff and some not-recorded songs.

  5. Sights set to 800 on the back porch eh?.... That takes some real understanding neighbors. A couple of neighbors in some parts.

  6. zendo, it's the sequel to "Enemies Foreign and Domestic". (Go Google)

"Domestic Enemies: The Reconquista" has the heroine from EFAD getting tangled up in a New Mexico where the Aztlan/LaRaza/MeCha types have taken political control.

I just bought 22 acres there.

  8. Well, in my case, paradise involves an overstuffed recliner under my butt and an overstuffed cat purring on my lap (in addition to some overstuffed tome to read), but the essence is the same.
