He still doesn't say "I'm sorry" but this is much better than before. Perhaps he has learned his lesson, but only his actions can tell now. Out of this mess, we may just have more united gun owners and a new ally. Time will tell. I do not feel sorry that he destroyed his career either.
I really like his point about buying a Wal-mart-grade gun and going hunting on his own dime in public hunting areas. No doubt his hunting success rate would drop preciptitously, but he would learn, or re-learn what the rest of the real-world hunters know--you come home empty handed more often than not (at least that's been my experience with deer/elk hunting).
If this guy's career is not destroyed, it is surely severely hamstrung. This will always be a cloud that hangs over him and taints all he has to say. Plus, after 3 or 4 decades of being a professional hunter/writer, isn't it about time to think about retiring anyway? DAL357
Zumster can always move here to CA and hunt since his recomendation for disallowing AR's is pretty much in effect here. Also if the lead-bullet ban passes he can just shoot those fancy copper solids instead.
While Petzal is just as seemingly ignorant and dismissive of the power of us "chatroom heroes" as his buddy Zumbo, he did make some good points:

I said pretty much the same thing on my blog, and Cowboy Blob's take on things seems eminently reasonable.
A goodly number of the folks crying for Zumbo's head were making us look like rabid dogs rather than reasonable people. They played right into the bad "gun nut" stereotype.
As Kevin shows, David Petzal is a Zumboclone - he was a supporter of the 1994 Clinton AWB. Hunters don't care about the 2nd Amendment outside their narrow self-interest.
Seems like he is still saying that the only "legitimate" rifles are hunting rifles. I don't think he gets it. I hate to say it, but I've met numerous hunters that seem to feel this way. You need not have purpose for your Arms, they need only be yours.
I feel that if the man is sincere, than apology accepted.
We have all done stupid things in the past and learned from our mistakes.
I'll wager he will double check anything he posts prior to hitting the “Send” button.
If Dianne Feinstein, Charles Schumer and Ted Kennedy were to dress is ashes and sackcloth and publicly beg for forgiveness over their transgressions against the 2nd Amendment on the steps of the Capitol, perhaps I would be inclined to offer my hand in friendship and let bygones be bygones.
Or perhaps not, some past actions are unforgivable!
According to the thread on Nugent's board, Zumbo is signed up for a carbine class with Pat Rogers ... and will be writing about the gun, and the class, in SWAT magazine.
Ok not all hunters are uncaring, thank you Ambulance Driver - but it's certainly obvious that many are very narrowly focused, and the Field & Stream guy acts like, when the guns are gone and fishing is outlawed by PETA and the magazine is called "Parking-Lot and Culvert" he'll still be fishing for "brown trout" in the drainage-ditch outside his palatial office window... Welcome to California is actually a warning.

They're fun to shoot, though.
