Overheard At Work...

"It lets you create a Wall of Light."

"A what?"

"A Wall of Light. You use your Wall of Light as a force multiplier to get inside the other guy's OODA* loop and dominate the battlespace."

"Shut up."

Jargon. The bane of any right-thinking individual.

*OODA: Observe, Overreact, Destroy, Apologize.

  1. According to Surefire's ads, that really works. However, it only works if your opponent is a young Asian male.

Then again, since most witnesses seem indicate that "Sum Yung" Guy is the usual suspect, maybe the ethnocentric nature of white light isn't necessarily a disadvantaged. All the non-Asians can be handled the old fashioned way: disruption of the OODA loop via ballistic disruption of the cardiovascular and/or neural network.

  2. For a minuet I thought that "Wall of Light" was some D&D wizard spell that I wasn't aware of.

Gamers are huge on the jargon as well

As one of them retired Air Force pukes myself, many could stand to learn from the late Col. John Boyd.

There will always be those who find a handy catch-phrase and use it ad nauseam. Perhaps they're fair game for ridicule. However, I'll always give the benefit of the doubt to John Boyd and his original acolytes.
