In another blow to Canada's formerly virile image...

...as the land of the lumberjack, hockey star, and Mountie, police in Ottawa, (as well as the local newspaper,) go into pants-crapping hysterics over some BB guns.

Really.

I'm not making this up.

The virility of Canada's image has now slipped past that of, say, Pennsylvania or Michigan, and is hovering down near the level of, say, New Jersey. News stories like this will ensure its continuing slide California-ward.

(H/T to Ninth Stage.)

"A charge of second-degree murder against a 14-year-old boy accused of fatally stabbing 13-year-old Chris Poeung has been stayed after the Crown determined the 14-year-old was acting in self-defence."

  3. We're virile in Michigan? Really? Virulent, maybe...

Then again, I'm in the Detroit area.

  4. Loaded? Course they're loaded! Don't they have any idea how much of a hassle it is to shake 100's of BBs out of the tiny hole you put them in? Doesn't mean he had one up the spout though!

  5. BB Guns are "firearms"? Where's the fire? Do BB Guns of today utilize combustion forces to propel the BB? If not, they aren't "firearms". Perhaps we should start pointing this out to both police and reporters.

  6. Reason 5987 why the decision several years ago to trade life in the great white north for the comforts of the Carolinas was indeed a grand idea!

  7. Oh c'mon, that's not Canada, that's Ottawa, clearly the ignorance in parliament is leaking out into the city proper and affecting the cops.

    Public health should be notified.

  8. Would that count as a "weapons cache", or an "arsenal"? I forget the exact definitions, especially when dealing with BB guns.

  9. I vaguely recall something about airguns being considered firearms in Canada if they have a greater than X fps.

i.e. if they are useful past 5ft.

Canada's weapons laws are really dumb, and full of catch 22's.

And let's not even get STARTED on the practical legal ramifications of self defense.

Basically: DO NOT engage in self defense unless you have burning urge to go to jail, unless you can really REALLY prove you acted in proportional and reasonable manner (Beating a 19 y.o. gun armed home intruder to death with a wooden spoon if you were ninety five and wheel chair bound, gave clear warning, had him shooting at you on video ... MIGHT qualify.)

    I'm exaggerating, but not much.

  10. Hmmmmm... here's an idea for you to try with the anti gun lobbyist and said crazy canadians.

Drop the entire lot down here in the suburb if hillbrow wearing gold watches and waving $50 bills around. They may be armed with only a whiffle bat.

The survivors will probably return home (all 3 of them) gibbering in terror and start buying your toys for you now that they've seen the light

  12. "above NJ"?!

This is Canada we're talking about - they arm wrestled with France to see who would be the butt of America's jokes, and well, Have you seen Chirac? Scrawny little dude never stood a chance. :D

  13. An investigation by the guns and gangs unit determined that the shots originated from an address on Wembly Street.

    It's always Wembly Street, isnt'it...?
