Politics: Intarw3bz bias.

Firefox 2.0's integral spellchecker knows "Baghdad", but not "Iwo Jima". It knows "KIA", but not "WIA".

Ironically, it does not know "spellchecker".

  1. Huh? It doesn't use the superb dictionary built into OS X - which I guarantee you ('cause i just tried it) recognizes every word in that sentence?

Yet another reason to stick with Safari...

  2. Having plenty of experience with Safari, Opera, IE, and Firefox, I like the latter, but it ain't for the spellchecker. I have yet to meet the spellchecker that can beat me in a spellin' bee anyway.

  3. I suspect Baghdad is in in the dictionary as a capital city. Also, it's in common usage today. Iwo Jima not so much. KIA is probably in the dictionary as a brand name.

    Bias? Probably not.

As an aside, I wonder how many people even pay attention to it? Not many. Either that or it's the IE hordes who keep typing "seperate." (cringe)

  4. I tend to prefer Firefox, myself. I like Safari only marginally better than IE. Just my personal preference.

  5. I'd like to be able to offer a more helpful comment here, but unfortunately to me Firefox only means the fictionalized MiG 31 from Craig Thomas's novel of the same name and its follow up, Firefox Down. And the Eastwood flick based on the former of course.

Yes, I certainly feel like I've added somthing worthwhile to the discussion now.
