Before we get too carried away...

...making fun of the latest bit of moonbat silliness from CommonDreams:

Will Bush Cancel The 2008 Election?

by Harvey Wasserman & Bob Fitrakis

It is time to think about the “unthinkable.”

The Bush Administration has both the inclination and the power to cancel the 2008 election.

The GOP strategy for another electoral theft in 2008 has taken clear shape, though we must assume there is much more we don’t know.

But we must also assume that if it appears to Team Bush/Cheney/Rove that the GOP will lose the 2008 election anyway (as it lost in Ohio 2006) we cannot ignore the possibility that they would simply cancel the election. Those who think this crew will quietly walk away from power are simply not paying attention.

...let's not forget that in late '99 up through early '01, conservative-leaning message boards were rife with our side's brand of paranoiacs wringing their hands about Clinton canceling the '00 election and making himself President-For-Life. I just did a search over at TFL on "Clinton + dictator", and some of those old threads were priceless...

  1. Well, it's a good thing that the left understands and enthusiastically defends the 2nd Amendment as the last real check on government power.

    Errr, wait...

  2. Would this be anything like a party in congressional power losing a vote, then reopening the voting secretly after talking some of their folks into changing their vote?

What am I saying.... that could never happen!

There is room for all kind of whackos on the fringe, and thats good, It adds flavor to life, like kosher salt on a grilled steak.

I myself have been fringe-like on many occasions. The sad part is... I usually didn't move, the border did.

  3. Read the article- they hint that the "90 million gun owners" will be involved.

  4. They also say that the public's only option would be a "sit-down strike"...

...'cause those have worked so well against repressive dictators in the past. They hate it when they have to shoot you while you're sitting down; it messes up the pavement with bullet gouges.

  5. As much as I think the politicians, of either flavor of statist, would like to institute a dictatorship, I don't think they have the balls. They might get some of the military behind them, but their little charade of "democrat vs. republican" would pretty much guarantee that just under half the population would be against them. Now I don't have a lot of faith in the average citizen to stand up and tell the gov't to go to hell, but I think enough of us will that things would be uncomfortably messy.

I don't understand the comment about 90 million gun owners. Do they think we would be for or against a dictatorship? Anybody that thinks all 90 million will act of one accord is delusional.

  6. At least when Bush seizes the emperor's chair, he won't have United Nations troops backing him like Clinton did.

    Thank heavens for small favors.

  7. I also heard that they're secretly genetically creating a bushchenydubaihalibsaddambinladen manchurian candidate who will sweep the elections though a mind control ray fired from a satelite owned by diebold who can only be killed by a stake wrapped in the original constitution run straight through his investment portfolio!

  8. I saw this posted here and thought I'd give it a mention on my blog as well

Overall I give the actual odds of this happening about as high as Osama Bin Laden announcing that he was wrong about the US the whole time and can't we all get along?
