Boomsticks: It's not a magic wand.

Joe Merchant reminds us that yes, you can miss with a shotgun, even from across the room.

(With a pistol, you can miss in a phone booth under stress. This is why repetitive practice and constant refreshers are very important.)

    If shotguns made such a broad path of destruction, I wouldn't suck so badly at the trap feild!

    Geez, ask any bird hunter. My dad used to complain about the defective shells in boxes of factory-loaded ammunition, the ones that the machines forgot to drop shot into.

    Yes, there is this myth that shot patterns spread out hugely at across-the-room distance.
