I had this really cool thing I was going to write...

...that I was bouncing off Marko yesterday, more about the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act and pendulums and ratchets, but all my piddling around in Roman history this morning has left my skull hoovered bare. Zilch. Nada. Tabula rasa. Bupkis. I know my super eloquent and totally convincing argument is still in there somewhere, because I remember I had one, but I'll be damned if I can remember the words.

I'm taking Barrayar out on the porch with a beer and a cigarette and see if anything bubbles to the surface by this afternoon.

  1. I really hate when that happens!
It also seem's to happen more often

  2. Ahh, the lovely signs of age are begining to show. I had something else to say but I forgot what it was...

  3. I think I've said this before, but can't really remember: It's not so bad when it happens to me. It screws up my day when it happens to Tam.

    Mental fermentation?

  5. I loved Barrayar, the first of that series I read. She has a unique talent of creating climactic scenes. For instance, in Barrayar "I went shopping", in The Vor Game "Hold this wormhole!", and in "The borders of Infinity "Chow Call!". Nobody does that better.

In case you might have missed it, she release a short novella, "Winterfair Gifts", which you can find if you look around a bit.

  7. Hey Tam, I couldn't find an email address for you but thought you might want to check this out. Right up your alley.

  8. I think you could say that you've lost your forward momentum....

  9. A friend explained it best.

Us smart people have this vast storehouse in our heads. Sometimes things get mis-filed in the storehouse and we stumble on them later.

I prefer to call it my 'vast storehouse of useless knowledge'.
I just keep shoving stuff in the door, and sometimes a good bit falls out the window when I need it.

  10. Barrayar was the first Bujold book I read. "Shopping! Want to see what I bought?"

"But of course, all the finest Vor ladies do their shopping in the Capital."

"I paid too much for it."

    "That too is traditional."

One of the finest scenes I've ever read.

  11. There's someone online selling fabric tote bags bearing the name of Barrayer's fanciest emporium. I'd love to own one, but I don't know if I would buy it second-hand.
