Good.

(CNN) -- A sheriff's deputy who killed six young people at a house party in Crandon, Wisconsin, apparently died after shooting himself three times in the head with a .40-caliber pistol, the state attorney general said.
I hope he shot himself in the back a few times, too.

  1. Shot himself three times in the head?

Sounds like Stalin's definition of suicide.

  2. In the back, yeah. Now that's schadenfreude.

I confess I presumed he had a department-owned milsurp AR, set to burst, and mouthed it. I've heard of people shooting themelves in the head unsuccessfully many times, but I'd never heard the third-time charm before. Clean misses ruled out, there's a very limited number of ways to account for this.

  3. "two nonfatal rounds with entry points below the chin,"

    That had to hurt.

    Man, no kiddin'.

You know you're a loser when you need three shots to the head before getting it right.

  6. Guess those complaints that the .40 S&W is underpowered have some merit.

    Sympathy to the families.

  7. Now I'll have to get a 20mm. Just in case.

    Three tries? Loser.

  8. At least the cop-thug had the decency to save the taxpayers the expense of trial and ten years incarceration while his appeals slogged through the courts.

This may change the definition of what has been called a "Texas Suicide."

Billie Sol Estes was a Texan famous for his close association with Lyndon Johnson and his exploitation of sgricultural subsidies. In the midst of an FBI investigation, Estes' local contact at the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, Henry Marshall, was found dead in his car (reportedly with five gunshot wounds) on a remote part of his own ranch. Attributing Marshall's death to carbon monoxide poisoning brought about from a hose attached to the exhaust pipe of his car, local Justice of the Peace Lee Farmer ruled Marshall had killed himself and the body was buried without an autopsy. The suicide verdict was later overturned. (Wikipedia)

Maybe the old name of "Texas Suicide" will give way to "Wisconsin Suicide" or "Cop Suicide."

Apparently, the Clintons were real students of the Lyndon Johnson era.

  9. Didn't the first day stories all indicate that the bad guy had been taken out by a SWAT team sharpshooter? I know I read at least two which quoted the mayor to that effect.

Yeah, I understand that there's plenty of room for misunderstandings in the initial phases of an investigation, but hey - - -
There should be a LOT of difference between a single rifle hit from any distance and THREE close-up .40 wounds.

  10. The conflicting reporting stories are a little weird, but I have no trouble at all accepting the idea that he may well have shot himself three times in the head because he missed the first two times. You'd be amazed how much nonfatal damage you can do to your head with improper aiming, and it's far more common than generally known- mostly, people miss by blowing off parts of their face and a bit of their frontal lobes.

Worst off are the guys who miss with a shotgun. How the hell are you gonna take your followup shot if your eyeballs are on the ceiling?

(Brought to you by my father's stint as a trauma surgeon, which led to his sentiment that copies of "Final Exit" should be available as a public service.)

The initial reports (which are by far the most widely read/heard) almost always attribute things of this nature to SWAT. A bit of "see, they really are needed and your tax dollars aren't being wasted" going on.

  12. That's some piss-poor aim right there...

Knew a guy who did that. The cosmetic surgeons couldn't do much when it came to putting his face back together.... (I met him a few years after the incident.)

  14. Initial reports say there were three contact-range gunshot wounds to the head and one rifle wound to the bicep.

The contact-range wounds were likely self-inflicted by the man's Glock while the rifle wound came from a police sharpshooter.

The AR-15 was apparently left at the scene of the initial shooting.

  15. Not since Salvador Allende died following a self inflicted airstrike...

I have seen a photograph of an elderly woman who shot herself nine times in the chest before dying, in circumstances where there was definitely no chance of a killer's presence.

Yes it was a 22. But it wasn't a Woodsman, it was a six shot revolver. THAT's determination.

  16. I have been present for a few such cases.

A man who committed suicide with 2 shots to the head with a .22

A man shot twice in the face and twice in the chest by a LEO armed with a 9mm, he was alert and spitting teeth on our arrival

Another man who shot himself twice in the head with a .38spl, and was conscious when we arrived.

    It happens.
