On this date in 475AD,
Romulus Augustulus was parked on the imperial throne by his dad, who was the commander of the armies of the Western Empire and who therefore felt up to a little politicking. Roughly a year later, Odoacer bumped off his father, captured Romulus, and FedExed the imperial tchotchkes back to Constantinople, marking the generally accepted end of the Roman Empire. (Although the Byzantines beg to differ.)
