My car's gas tank seems to have grown. It only held about thirteen bucks worth when I got it, but it swallowed $36.00 of midgrade today. Yet the mileage must have gotten a lot worse, because that tank will still only take me a little over 350 miles...
"that tank will still only take me a little over 350 miles..."
ReplyDeleteI knew about the aero engines and U-boats, but I thought it was just Porsche with the tanks.
Pretty good mileage for a tank.
ReplyDeleteMost are measured in gallons per mile.
do they change the fuel there seasonally? Most have extra additives in the winter, and it tends to hurt mileage
ReplyDeleteToday's gas prices brought to you by Republican foreign polices.
ReplyDeleteBrought to you by:
ReplyDelete1) Republicrat fiscal irresponsibility collapsing the dollar.
2) Granola types who don't want drilling done anywhere because apparently their smoking '88 Volvos with the "Love Your Mother" stickers run on tap water and moonbeams.
3) Insane taxes on gasoline because the government needs that money to maintain the infrastructure, like they did so well in MSP.
I could go on, but it's more fun to blame Chimpy McHitlerburton and Darth Cheney.
Awww, Mom, you don't want us to have any fun. Can't we go on blaming the easy marks like always?
ReplyDelete"Today's gas prices brought to you by Republican foreign policies."
ReplyDeleteI'll take those as opposed to the results of un-opposed DemCong Domestic Energy Policy: The Standard mode of transport for regular folks being a rickshaw, with Internal Combustion Powered Transport Permits restricted to the heads of Unions (and others in charge of huge voting blocs), .gov departments, and those able to afford the connections and taxes to get thoem.......
Jimbob you're right there, and if the same parties offered to bring back slavery because it's green, they'd get some votes. More votes if they're specific about who does the fetch & hewin'.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we could plant that one at the next debate...
I've been scratchin' my head about that one, too.
ReplyDeleteAnd crying when I look into my empty wallet.
High oil prices are due to:
ReplyDelete1) collapse of the dollar
2) increased demand in the far east and india
3) lack of investment by opec in development
4) decline curves on all our fields
5) poor long term management of the IOC's
6) incompetence by the NOC's
7) the long term impact of the "great crew change"
8) enviro's and politico's telling us where we can explore and how to do it.
9) the US economy that got drunk on cheap oil.
If you don't know what all those problems are, you don't work in the industry but if you spend some time on google you will understand.
Me? I don't care, I look forward to bonuses this year. Even $90 a barrel WTI will make mine really good. This year I am starting to toy with getting a barrett 50 just as a tribute to the oil price.
Its the equivalent of $7.72 per US Gal on this side of the Atlantic, so you'll have to forgive my lack of sympathy.
ReplyDeleteHow much of that is taxes, bpe? --If you don't mind me askin'.
ReplyDeleteRoberta
ReplyDeleteAssuming that bpe is in the UK...
Tax is somewhere around the 60-65% mark.
Fuel is roughly £1 per Litre and my little diesel costs just over $120 a time to fill it. Good eh?
Roberta, NBC's figures are about right, and I am in the UK. Of the $7.72 figure :
ReplyDelete$2.76 pays for the fuel
$3.81 goes in Road Duel Duty
$1.15 goes in Value Added Tax
So tax makes up 64% of the price at the pump. (Value Added Tax is a kind of really complicated sales tax, and is charged on both the fuel cost and the road fuel duty - we pay tax on our taxes!)
bpe: So, with what I remember from the last time I was in Utah (nothing special about Utah, just there's a station down the road from Correia's place that shows the fuel taxes on a sticker on the pump) we're paying roughly the same for the actual fuel, and you're getting reamed like a 3 dollar whore on the taxes.
ReplyDeletet certainly feels like it.
ReplyDelete3) Insane taxes on gasoline because the government needs that money to maintain the infrastructure, like they did so well in MSP.
ReplyDeleteYou call that taxes?
WE have taxes on fuel!
