Random political stuff...

1) Look, I know that the old "Actor != President" thing is almost a mantra with the lefties, imprinted on their hindbrains by their conniptions during the Reagan years. It was a little disingenuous with Reagan, seeing as how he spent eight years as governor of a large, populous state before unpacking his stuff in the White House; it's not like he just wandered off the set and into the Oval Office.

It's a lot disingenuous with Thompson, who was a high-powered attorney in Tennessee and Washington DC for twelve years before being asked to play himself in a movie. There's also the minor point of his two terms as a Senator. But no, to every liberal pundit he's an actor playing at politics. Even if that were actually the case, I don't see the problem. Maybe certain people don't like the idea of politicians who've actually had jobs before, instead preferring professional glad-handers who've been sucking at the taxpayer teat since they graduated from college.

2) Why do candidates who proclaim themselves to be "The Candidate For Change" never tell me what they're changing, or what they want to change it into? Changing what? Their socks? My laundry detergent? The economy into some over-regulated brontosaurus? The lack of specifics gives me the creeping willies.

  1. I don't understand what they're complaining about. They'd love an actor as president...as long as it was Sean Penn or George Clooney.

  2. Two words: "Martin" and "Sheen". Hell, half that crowd acted like he was the president while that dumb show was on the air.

  3. what about "Geena" & "Davis"?

I'm still convinced that show was a way to get us all "ready" for a female president - back when Hillary was still the golden girl.

Heh. What does that tell us about the smoking hole left by its plummeting Nielsen ratings after it augered in?

  5. The thing that scares me the most about Obama and his "Voice for Change" is it is the same sales pitch our lovely Gov. Patrick used to win here in MA last time. He has done nothing useful since he got in office and everyone wonders how he did it. It was easy, he did it on the promise that "together we can". . . just never told us what we can do. . .
People didn't like it so much when it became together we can pay more taxes and all the other liberal BS. . . even the legislature is working against some of his ideas which I never thought I would see in MA. . . The DEMs finally got the governors spot back and now they fight amongst themselves while the state continues to spiral in. . . .

  6. When they talk about change they are talking about their lifestyles - pampered luxury for 4 years followed up by lucrative book deals/lecture tours.

  7. Actors in politics?

Last I checked, Ah-nuld was Emperor of the Left Coast.

If he's representative of, and electable in, Loony Land, surely the same can be said of Fred on the national stage (pun intended).

  8. My fondest hope is they will all get lost in greed, scams, and in-fighting.... leaving us alone to live our lives in peace.

Mayeb if we wall off DC, and pour cheap wiskey and fake cash (frozen, warrped in foil) over the wall, they won't notice the rest of the world getting on with their lives.

I know we wouldn't miss THEM.

Build the DC wall and fill the moat with whisky.

  10. Two words: "Martin" and "Sheen".

We'd be much better off with "Martin" and "Lewis".

    Regards,

  11. Oh, that "change" BS really get's me. . it's been around since I was in middle school in the 60's---no doubt right out of the KGB's handbook.

Hey, you know what, if I get malaria, that's a "change" from my current condition. Let's talk about a good "change". . ok?

  12. Change! It's what's left!
The best prep school for Presidents
seems to be extended governorship of a large, complicated State. Vermont doesn't count. Neither, demonstrably, does Arkansas.

  13. Change. Everyone's about change again when it comes to the candidates. 'I'm the candidate for change' till they're bloody blue in the face.

The Ministry of Alteration is all about change, too.
