The gag that just won't die...

...no matter how Obama's handlers wish it would.

Found this one over at Are We Lumberjacks?:

Like I said elsewhere, Obama's greatest strength was his Aikido campaign. As long as he just stood there and waved and mouthed "Hopey! Changey! Hopey! Changey!" he was golden. If his handlers could have kept him from actually trying to talk about his views of anything, he'd have the nomination sewn up by now because Hillary would have stroked out trying to attack an empty shirt.

My first thought was that it is not the emptyness that was selling, it was the marketing and packaging that was selling the product. If the packaging WAS in fact empty, as so many think it is, that would not worry me in the slightest. What worries me is that the package is NOT empty. I believe it contains a virulent strain of Socialism. It's labeled "Change" and "Hope", and half the people in the country are screaming "I want me some of that!"

Telling them "Caveat emptor!" won't help them at all, as it would be gibberish to them...... they want that pretty box.

Seems to me that Senator "I can make a pretty good speech!" meant to give the San Fran Crowd a look at what was in the pretty box, and somebody took a picture....... and folks in small town America saw it.... unfortunately, they won't remember it come November.... that pretty box will still be there, chanting "HopeyChangey!".....

  2. The Hamas endorsement is gonna really help because they certainly cling to their guns, and bombs, and rockets. Love the Akido bit.
To partly address Jimbob86, the San Francisco crowd heard exactly what they already believe, it's common "knowledged" around here that the Midwest begins at Oakland across the Bay.

  3. Ah! But an empty shirt with Louis Vuitton baggage.

    Or maybe Hermes.

  4. I want to say right here that I think Obama's Pennsylvania remark was the pivotal blunder of the '08 election season. I will wager that it has cost him the nomination and, by extension, the Dems don't get the White House.

I pick Hils to out-logroll Barack at the convention, and McCain to beat Hils in the general election by the largest margin since her husband stomped Dubya's daddy.

I'll say it again: Too bad for the Dems, 'cause Barack would have mopped the floor with McCain unless he got a charisma transplant between now and November. Hillary, the most divisive figure in American politics since Nixon, just doesn't have the supporters to beat McCain.

  5. My favorite comment so far,
(Senator Clinton) "jumped on Obama's comments like Rosie O'Donnell on a sundae in the form of a woman's hoo-ha".

  6. Even somebody filled with "magic hopey changitude" should know that insulting a goodly share of the populace that you need to vote for you is really poor tactics.

  7. You know what (barely) surprised me?

Shortly after this broke, Barack's aides were muttering to news people that he was surprised people disliked his comments.

As if he didn't know that calling people bitter, hinting at the idea of a "false consciousness" that kept them attached to their guns/family/church, and saying that they missed the True Saviour, the Government would offend.

    Talk about out-of-touch!

  8. What i love is that the bitter, "false consciousness" belongs to the over-educated academic Left who are the ones obsessed with religion and guns, and in a negative way have their Sociology all ass-backwards.
Small-town people of modest means and limited education are not fixated on cultural issues. Rather, it is affluent, college-educated people living in cities and suburbs who are most exercised by guns and religion. In contemporary American politics, social issues are the opiate of the elites.psn

  9. Tamara,

This might sound a bit crazy but assuming an Obama win in the primary what do you think about a McCain/Hillary ticket?
