I'm burnin', I'm burnin' for you...

Ripping all my CD's into iTunes has started with various movie soundtracks, from FM to Reservoir Dogs to Romeo + Juliet to Mortal Combat to The Matrix.

If you play the songs in alphabetical order by artist, this winds up with Billy Joel to Biohazard to Book Of Love to Boston to Brian Eno to the Butthole Surfers. This can play havoc with setting a mood for the day...

  2. Alphabetical is bad. Pink Floyd? Patsy Cline? Nah.

Shuffle, believe it or not, is less of a pain.

  3. "I'm burnin', I'm burnin' for you..." is presumably from Blue Oyster Cult. It was originally on Fire of Unknown Origin, though it sounds like you got it from some soundtrack.

Personally, another cut on the same album captures my mood better: "You see me now a veteran of a thousand psychic wars..."

Tell me that doesn't describe living in the blogosphere.

  4. Which Butthole Surfers tune is on the list? Something from the "Repo Man" soundtrack?

  5. Shuffle is good, playlists are better! It takes time to set 'em up, but the results are worth it. I've got umpteen gigs of music separated out by decade, by genre, and so on.

  6. Mine goes from a Graham Chapman Monty Python piece to Gregorian Chant to Great White.

    Or Iggy Pop/Insane Clown Posse/Inspiral Carpets/INXS/Iris DeMent/Irish Rovers/Iron Butterfly/Isaac Hayes/Isabelle Boulay....

Play lists are the way to go, no doubt. Then shuffle within the play list. I do 'em by mood.

  7. Biohazard (+ Onyx) from the Judgment Night soundtrack.

Butthole Surfers from the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack.

I have the latter movie on VHS. I totally need to find and hook up the VCR so Roberta X can see it...

  8. I love "Don't Fear the Reaper". Used to be a hardcore Billy Joel fan...have attended a few horrocore shows. I think Biohazard did one with ICP I attended at the Masquerade...You should check out Big Bill Broonzy.

  9. The "Judgement Night" soundtrack is one of the best kept secrets in the music world. Sad the movie was such an abortion.
BOC, aren't they about prime to start making the County fair circuit?

  10. I ripped all our CDs a couple weeks ago. Thing that surprised me most? K.C. and Sunshine Band were damned good.

  11. P.S. Does iTunes have a way to shuffle by album? As in play the entire Dark Side of the Moon album and then randomly pick another album and play in its entirety?

  12. 'Biohazard (+ Onyx) from the Judgment Night soundtrack.'

Hell, I thought i was the only one who owned two CDs with biohazard on them.

    Judgment night indeed rocked.

  13. "K.C. and Sunshine Band were damned good."

Maybe I should give them another chance. My first exposure was on my first trip to Florida for spring break. The two young ladies going down with me had only one 8 track tape between them - KC and the Sunshine Band - and they played it for twelve hours straight. I swore I'd never listen to "Play That Funky Music, White Boy" again for the rest of my life.

  14. You're not a hardcore Billy Joel fan unless you own something by Atilla or the Hassles.

  15. I went out with several clients and coworkers last week. Due to the mixed nature of the group the jukebox went from Angel of Death (Slayer) to Love Shack (the B52s) to Up Against the Wall Redneck Mother (Jerry Jeff Walker). A good time was had by all.

  18. Chris,

    Best song on the soundtrack!

    Prester Sean,

No, I have a weakness for BritPop of that era.
