I've lost track, but...

...I think I'm supposed to drink green beer out of a dreidle today and set off firecrackers while listening to a mariachi band in lederhosen play "That's Amore".

It's important not to forget the true meaning of any of America's hojillion imported holidays, which all seem to revolve around sponsorship by Anheuser Busch.

  1. No, you're supposed to celebrate a temporary Mexican defeat of part of a French army which was trying to install an Austrian Archduke on the non existent Mexican throne. Which they succeeded in doing, until Napoleon III lost interest.

Won't be long until it's an American national holiday.

The solution? Get blind drunk now.

  2. I totally agree! It's time to let some other beer magnate get in on the scam, how about Sam Adams, they have a flavor for every day of the year!

  3. Hey ... every country gets to beat France at least once.

    Mexico had their turn.

I'm waiting for Pridnestrovie to have their turn.

  4. The drinks industry is almost as bad as the greeting card industry about making up holidays. At least with their made-up holidays you get to drink!

  6. As things are shaking out, I want to second Breda's lobbying efforts for the rematch date -- and narrow it down to the 15th or the 22nd.

  7. Be glad you're not down here in the alternate capital of Mexas. Spontaneous parades are breaking out around taquerias, which means traffic is blocked about every block and a half on the west side of town.

Si, se puede my left hind foot.

  8. Henceforth, all celebrations involving Tam will be considered "popping the cork on the dreydl"

    A great miracle happened there...

  9. Why is this night different from
all other nights? Because we get to
pop the cork on the dreidel.
    Love it!
I can provide some wine on which the
    fermentation stuck, making it extra
    sweet. It was christened "Mogen
    Donald."
