Two mile hike for nuthin'.

What the hell kind of post office closes at 4:30? I ask you.

At least they're open tomorrow.

  3. Well, a United States post orifice-er-office.

I worked in the mail industry for 8 years, writing software. I feel your pain.

  4. "You walked?"

Yeah. It's about a mile down the Monon Trail to Broad Ripple proper, and I was feeling all healthy...

  5. You walked?

Ya, all that money that didn't go into my gas tank goes into my belly as beer. What of it?

I'd much rather subsidize the beer makers than the oil makers. What with the religion of the oil makers being against beer and all.

  6. When I lived in the caribbean, it was amazing how inefficient their postal service was. It made our USPS look like the very Couriers of the Gods.

That being said, closing at 4:30 seems a bit out of sorts.

  7. You mean post offices aren't supposed to stay manned till 10 p.m., and then still be automated until the morning shift arrives at 8 a.m., like I have here? Heh. Sorry, couldn't resist.

  8. As RedneckInNY said, I'm pretty sure this closing at 4:30 thing is just an Indiana thing.

Town I'm by (30 miles south of Terre Haute), PO service desk locks up at 4:30, lobby (where the PO boxes are) locks up 4:45.

I was in Dallas a few weeks ago, had to mail something back home, and did it at 12:30 AM, because the PO lobby had the automated systems.

So.. yeah. Kinda surprises you don't have the auto stuff up Indy-way, though.

  9. I don't know what NY post office he's using, but I've never seen one open past 6pm, and I'm in New York City.

4:30 is a little early - most of the ones around here close at 5PM.

  10. Technically the post office is no longer a government entity, at least according to postal types I've asked.

When I ask them why usps.gov still resolves to their site they don't have an answer. ;)

  11. Hey, leave the posties alone, they may not be stellar examples of customer service, but given my experience with other nations Postal services... they are pretty good: generally polite, and almost always helpful, and pretty efficient and cheap.

(Hey, they deliver to my door on saturdays, I'll cut them a little slack about Friday evening.)

  12. huh, looks like you got a ghost writer up there at one frickin' fifty four a.m...that's a little weird...

ot, xavier is hyping one of his odd biking writers thusly:

"If you are a cyclist and you have not found Bike Snob's blog, you are missing the bike worlds equivalent of Tam's View From The Porch. Total, unmitigated, well honed and incisive snark that has teeth that cut to the bone in one snap."

    i think he likes you...jtc

  13. Answer: The Broad Ripple branch. Nora (about 3 miles UP the trail from Broad Ripple) is open until 7pm Monday-Friday, 3pm Saturday.

  14. So by WALKING the two miles rather than driving you not only saved some gas in your tank, you had the opportunity to expel all the gas you want, without bothering Bobbie!

    You little stinker.

  15. www.stamps.com: an approved licensed vendor of the United States Postal Service says "NEVER GO TO THE POST OFFICE AGAIN."

The USPS sent my name to stamps.com. Stamps.com sent me a lovely coaster via USPS to replace an old AOL CD this week.

Maybe a look under Roberta X's coffee cup will save you another walk, Tam. My coaster is New Version 7.0.
