Tam some few years ago i was working for a short time at the Tank Museum at Bovington in the UK i was sorting out all the miss labeling in the Firearm Collection and reporting back on condition etc and were they working or deacts some very nice pieces anyway i was only there a short while, last year i was talking to my old boss there and found out that ever piece had been Deacted, sheer bloody Vandalism and made the Collection Worthless.
An amazing world, where they take the pistol from a Korea vet who is a former cop, and consider that equal to taking guns "off of the streets." The guns they took never saw a street.
And for those who can't figure it out, the POLICE SPOKESMAN suggests-
"No statistics are available to show a link between gun buybacks and violent crime. Illegal guns are available for as little as $50, and there's nothing to stop an enterprising criminal from surrendering a $50 handgun and using the $250 to buy five more," Joshi said.
I can see it now, in the San Francisco P. D. armorer's room- "Hey, Sarge- you know all those old beater Model 10s that Glock only offered us a $50 credit for? Oakland's paying $250..."
Destroying that korea war service weapon was so wrong on so many levels...
And the whole "buyback" gun amnesty thing also equals destruction of a lot of evidence.
If I lived there though, I'd buy out all the cheapo guns I could and hand them in... then I'd use the profit to buy myself some real quality guns instead.

I always liked the deodand concept.
ReplyDeleteC. S. Forester has a good story in his collection, "The Nightmare", about Nazis, called "The Deodand".
