Today In History: Moving pictures from outer space.

On this day in 1962, a little ball not quite three feet in diameter, spinning high above the Earth's surface, relayed the first live television broadcast across the waters of the Atlantic.

  2. Telstar! My parents limited our TV watching (and comic books, and...you name it, there was censorship) and to this day maintain a palpable disdain for anything other than "educational" TV. We did see the moon landing.
