Oh, my gawd...

On the Chris Matthews Show this morning (The topic was "President Obama: Was it Destiny or merely his vast Talents?") the panel was practically autoorgasmic, never mind that we haven't actually had a, you know, election yet. They know in their hearts who their president is; they were definitely not this fired up about Kerry, or even Gore.

During the commercial break, while '60s music was being used to sell hair dye to vain older guys who think that it will help them surf and pick up chicks while playing the guitar in a rock band, I had time to ponder as to the reason Boomers, in particular, are so starry eyed over a guy who was still in short pants during the Summer of Love. I have to say, I can't figure what it is.

  1. This Boomer, a life-long Democrat, is not starry-eyed; (never has been). I don't know who these people are anymore.

  2. I think it's because a goodly number of them have never thrown out their little red books.

  3. As a boomer myself, I don't understand it at all.

  4. The same people who powered the Summer of Love, a subset of the population who lived through the 60s but have written the based-on-a-true-story history of it (as presented in pop cultural memory) have another moment to make ill-considered history.

Hopefully, they'll learn that they're actually a minority in this country.

  5. This was predictable. They were sure of themselves during the summer of love, they were sure of themselves when Clinton was in office, they're sure of themselves now.

None of this was based on anything more than feeling good about themselves, and feeling superior to other folks.

  6. Because from the "change the world" mindset, wisdom is found in untested youth rather than the accumulated experience of the aged. I mean, how many articles have you seen over the years that offer up a five year old parroting their parents as some kind of deep "insight of innocence" we should all use to shape national policy?

It's "don't trust anyone over 30" all over again.

Now all that said, I'm sure for the most part all the fawning is because he parrots their own opinions.. if I saw someone come onto the national stage that big that I pretty much agreed with down the line, I'd be pretty happy about it to.

The whole Personality Cult thing though is just creepy as all heck. People don't make good objects of worship. *shiver*

  7. "And a little child shall lead them..."?? It's all about mirrors and reflections and in projection he reminds them of themselves, that which they worship most.

  8. Jenny is dead on.

They don't FEEL of themselves that they are old and past it. In their hearts it's always 1960 or 1968 and world still revolves around them, just as it has for sixty years.

So as she says, when a mirror (to themselves as they fantasize themselves) comes along, it's sooo pretty...

    @#$%^ boomers...

Submit word hopoerit- I will have been jumping on one foot.

  9. I'm pretty sure that Chris Matthews has a navy blue suit jacket with Obama's DNA on the lapel.

  10. Kind of annoying, ranging to disgusting at times. Can't deal with grey or missing hair? Surgery and dye! WE are the People Who Never Grow Old! etc.

Which I could just laugh at, if they didn't think they have some divine right to run my damn life.

  11. It just "feels" right, you know? Got a good vibe about it. And, like, I'd be a rascist like the Republicans if I didn't vote Obabma, right?

  12. Tam, think how much fun it will be to watch these morons kvetch if Barry loses!

  13. Well--being a boomer, I'm buying a nice new carbine friday--befor the election, and some extra magazines.

Just in case the strangly hypnotized run amoke in case of a McCain win.
