On this date in 1816, Indiana checked into the Hotel California that is U.S. statehood. The Union is kinda like the Mafia, in that you join voluntarily but you're only leaving feet-first.
Now the Boringist state in the union, (the Indy 500, and 364 days of Miniature Golf) Indiana was once the largest territory. We've done OK. Most notably, and greatly in our favor, is indiana's near total lack of a tourist trade.
