Gadget lust.

I have gone on at length before about that sexy piece of pocket jewelry that is the Prybaby. (Someday I will own one of Atwood's awesome pocket gizmos!)

I know I have mentioned that two of the handiest things I own are my Leatherman Micra and my Leatherman Juice KF4.

The Caspian Pocketsmith II's that I've given friends were big, big hits.

Basically, I loves me some handy little gadgets.

And pocket knives? Don't get me started. I once paid more for a pocketknife than I did for my first car. They really are like pocket jewelry.

But you'll pardon me if I think that a small Sebenza makes a far better "intelligent statement of style and independence" than this thing. (And how is one supposed to assert independence by aping "Hollywood's A-List actresses"?)

  1. The Pistolsmith rocks. Highly recommended.

    Just last month at gun skul I got to play hero in fixing several guns of fellow students.

    It was just the thing for tightening the sights on my shotgun that someone . . . ummm, yeah, someone forgot to tighten before class.

  2. Thanks a lot! Now I have to figure out how to pay for a Prybaby once they're available again.

    Hmm. Excellent gadget vs. averaging up my price per round by paying too much for ammo?

    Advantage=Prybaby

  4. Those Prybabys sure look nice!

    ...But what, exactly, does one do with one? Okay, I can see that it has a bottle opener. The wave on my pocket knife works as one too. And you can pry with one. But can you pry any more than with a multitools flat screwdriver?

    They are very pretty, but I'm just not seeing the point in one. Anyone care to enlighten me?

  5. Ah.

    Pretty much what I use my current multitools screwdrivers for, in other words. :)

  6. Yes, except you don't have to unfold anything or worry about damaging pivots.

    I look at it as a handy, portable gizmo to handle all those chores that I shouldn't be using my pocketknife to do, plus opening bottles. :D

  7. Curse you for showing me those things... now I might have to actually get one, and my wallet is already giving me dirty looks...

  8. ...I should worry about damaging pivots? รต.o The thought hadn't really occurred to me. :P (Busting the end of the screwdriver, yes, but then again these days I carry a ByrdRench and new flat head hex bits are something like 50 Euro-cents each. :) )

    And did I mention already that all my pocket knives have the wave feature so they work as bottle openers? :)

  9. Every time I tried to be cool an open a bottle with my Emerson Commander, I busted my knuckles. :(

    OTOH, you can wow the room by using the lanyard loop on the butt of a 1911. I can't remember if Art or Johnny Guest taught me that little trick, but it's why I put an S&A lanyard loop MSH on my '66 Colt. :D

  10. Gerber has made a tool like the Prybaby, the Artifact. MSRP is just under $15.

    I almost picked one up, but I remembered I carry a lefty Prybaby XL on my keychain.

  11. That's horrible. And wrong. It's um, hong, I guess.

  12. I've got a spare Prybaby somewhere in this house. Probably covered in rust by now, but you're more than welcome to it (gratis) if I can ever find it.

    Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna put a lanyard on my LaRue bottle opener. As a Texan, that pocket bling appeals to me.

  13. Yeah, but can you "...carry around a vial of [your] fave perfume..." in your Sebenza? Huh? Canya?

    {ducks}

    It'd be too hard to get the Hoppe's No.9 into the durn thing anyway...

  15. I am intrigued by the idea of a knife with a sewing kit in it, though.

  16. Far be it from me to stand between anyone and micro-prybar, but County Comm has some similar pry small fry...and there's always something useful being touted at the EDC forum - a good source to find prybabies when no one else has 'em. Don't neglect the oldie-but-goodie S&W keychain/pocket screwdriver.
