Another senseless gun-related injury...

Despite a visit from Murphy, Joe Huffman cowboys up and smokes the stage anyway.

  1. They do have some drawbacks.

I am neither rabidly for nor against them. You might say I'm ambivalent...

  3. People who get all excited when they see a broken gun puzzle me.

I guess people who get all excited when they see a broken car puzzle junkyard employees, too.

I get moderately excited when I see unbroken ones, although I know it just means they haven't been shot enough.

(Florence King once said that her grandmother took her to so many funerals as a child that to this day she still gets a little startled to see somebody move.)

  4. "You might say I'm ambivalent..." Aw Pee Eww.

Who's excited? Guns break, the reasoning that I don't like ambis is that they increase that probability. This particular instance is pretty unique though, I think.

Everytime I hear the boast from a gun owner that their particular example of the uber-blaster has NEVER malfunctioned, I think one of two things (mostly both) 1) LIAR! 2) You haven't shot it enough.

  5. At last count I had about 20K rounds through that gun. I'm pretty sure it's over 30K by now. I've had numerous breakages but what I find interesting was that in each and every case the gun was still shootable. It had not failed in a manner that caused me to not finish a course of fire (although that broken barrel lug wouldn't have taken many more rounds).

  6. As a Glock owner, I must attest that my gun has broken on one or two occasions. It's just a sign that you are actually using it.

Tam, I think the 1911's won't break if you have a full length guide rod in them. It makes them magical! ;-)

  7. Had a Star PD in .45 that went about 15K rounds without fail. then it failed.
The frame broke above the mag latch, and every round fired bounced the mag loose.
Took me a while to figger it out.

  8. Star's PD was (and is) a nice carry gun but it relies on a difficult-to-find shock buffer to prolong frame life and even then, it's not exactly a daily shooter; I really wish they'd've done a steel-framed version for practice. If I remember correctly, this was one of the earliest "carry daily, shoot rarely" guns. A pity, I really like mine.

All guns break. Some break sooner.

  9. Seriously though, what's with the 2011 engraving just above the grip? Is someone selling "Future gun 2011, taking the 1911 into the next century"? :p

  10. Mikael, the simple answer is "Yes".

It's a STI 2011 Eagle 5.1 (now obsolete but see the 5.0). It is similar to a 1911 in many ways with many parts interchangeable. Probably the most obvious differences are the double stack magazine and polymer grip.
