Bias so thick you can smell it.

Say Uncle points out that in the Knoxville News-Slantinel, when an off-duty police officer carries his gun into a gin joint, it's "an establishment that serves alcohol", while when a simple civilian does it, it's a "bar".

Obviously I need to get one of them there journalism degrees, so I can be a detached, olympian, unbiased guardian of the public weal.

  1. Despite the screaming about the need for parellel positives/negatives, the official AP format (last time I checked) is "pro-choice" vs. "anti-abortion". I'm not commenting on that particular issue, just pointing out that, unfortunately, the symptom you noticed is just the latest manifestation of the deeper disease.

Also, AP needs to go sit in the corner and color.

  2. ...... as Joanna said, it is deeper than that. Round here, when a knucklehead kid has a ND, and shoots another kid, they report it as "he unintentionaly discharged the weapon". When the Chief of Police has one, and shoots one of his guys, it's "the gun went off".......

This kind of slant has got to be taught in Journalism classes..... Tam, you stay outa there.

Anybody else come up with more examples?

  3. I'd pay good money to see Tam participate in a journalism class. All those heads exploding ...

  5. That's along the same lines of when the local PD feels the need to field M4s, they are "Tactical Weapons" but when we unwashed civilians want an AR15, it's an "Assault Rifle".
