In the Great Northwest, we generally eschew such misleading faux geographical designators and call the two variants "white" and "red" clam chowder. Some claim Ivar's makes the best white chowder, but my money is on Duke's. And if you do not live up there, you have my pity.
Incidentally, the Costco nearest my house ("near" being a relative term in Rural America) usually carries the Patio burritos in bags of, oh, dunno, one gross or something typically Costconian.
Although I haven't yet tried it, the "Erin" intrigues me, for I am an asparagus fiend.
I think I've only done lunch there twice; it's usually a breakfast destination for us...
(Taste, Zest, Cafe Patachou/Petite Chou, and the soon-to-be-opened Good Morning Mama: Broad Ripple is an embarrassment of riches for gourmet breakfast chow...)
OK, give it up. I bet shooty buddy would trade the source for more lasagna. Do you think a deal could be arranged?
ReplyDeleteManhattan clam chowder?
ReplyDeleteThat's just wrong....
I was at the Publix yesterday, and saw them. I almost bought some, but bought beer instead.
ReplyDeletewv- butoid: what i'm afraid one of those burritos would give me.
I think the Manhattan style's got tomato base instead of cream.
ReplyDeleteManhattan style? Well, whatever floats your boat.

My biggest concern about going to Camp Perry for a couple weeks is that you can't get decent salsa north of I-20.
ReplyDeleteWait, you already had Progresso Manhattan Clam Chowder?
ReplyDeleteI should have brought the burritos that you like.
Shootin' Buddy
"Wait, you already had Progresso Manhattan Clam Chowder?"
ReplyDeleteJust the one can. I found it after you'd already struck paydirt.
I am not getting my hopes up, because it didn't scan at the register, so it may have gotten shelved by accident.
You're better than this, Tamara. You eat at Taste, where all the sammiches (except the "Erin") look damned good.

ReplyDeleteYarr. Genius. Manhattan Clam Chowdah the best tasting 'diet' food, evah.
Matt,

Matt G: are you impugning the goodness of Manhattan style clam chowder? Tsk, sir, tsk.
ReplyDeleteBless you.
ReplyDeleteI thought I was the only one in the gun blogosphere who liked Manhattan-style clam chowder. My faith in humanity has been restored.
Progresso's version is sold in my nearby stores. Looks like another box enroute...
Manhattan clam chowder??? Ick.
ReplyDeleteTam, if you ever make it to the frozen Northeast, you'll have to try the real stuff. Hint: there isn't a tomato anywhere near it.
One of the few good things about living in MA is that you can get GOOD chowdah.
I'm not sure where you can get good gaviros, though (word verification). Sounds like a Greek dish of some sort.
I don't mind white chowder, but I prefer the tomato-based kind.
