Much better.

A one hour nap has me feeling a lot saner, thank you very much.

Also, I realized that the only solid food I'd eaten all day yesterday was a bag of Pirate's Booty and a heel of bread with three slices of pepperoni on it. My blood sugar was probably a little low.

  3. Like I tell the young female volleyball players I coach, a car will not run without gas. Engines do not work without fuel.

Treat your body like an engine. If you want to be stronger, faster, and able to compete at a high competitive level YOU HAVE TO EAT!

And you have to eat smart. You are not going to get by on lattes, mochas, rice cakes and green tea. Your body needs a balance including vegatable and animal protein, carbs, etc. Be smart, be balanced, keep your furnace stoked and running.

The biggest struggle I deal with is trying to convince these young ladies that if they want to be a healthy competitive athlete they have to be strong and smart and they have to eat. If they eat and workout, the way they should, they will not be skinny little teenagers.

Granted you may not be trying to be an advanced level volleyball player but I'll bet your brain works better when you eat well and sleep enough. And if you were to experiment a while I'll bet you'll find that you shoot better if you have been eating well the day or so before you shoot - your brain will be sharper and your muscles and nerves will be steadier.

  4. You can't swing an elderly cat in Broad Ripple and not hit a restaurant and you are not eating right???

Didn't some wonderful person resupply you with Progresso Manhattan Clam Chowder that he drove ALL THE WAY over a bridge into another city and fought with Chinese grad students and bears to procure?

  5. Hey, I wasn't home all day yesterday, and I planned on going out to eat after hitting Premiere, but my lunch expedition got tornado-ed out, and then I killed my appetite with a bag of Pirate Booty. Then I had a snack instead of supper before going to bed.

Now I've had a bowl of Manhattan clam chowder and a stack of crackers and I feel better.

I'll probably nuke some bbq chicken and taters later.

  6. I find getting hypoglycemic is bad for me. Probably about as bad as it is for everyone else.

  7. I was tired because I got "One Minute After" and couldn't put it down for the past couple of nights...speaking of low blood sugar...that is how everyone ended up in the book. Highly recommend it btw.

    tornado-ed out
I thought that was an eclipse at noon...hehe.

  8. Protip: if the way the day is structured means you gotta fast, when you get the opportunity to eat, eat fats, not carbohydrates. That way the body doesn't have to re-design its metabolic pathway org chart when the time comes to burn the reserves and you don't have a lot of glycogen left sitting around in your liver and muscles.

Heavy cream and olives (NOT AT THE SAME TIME) have gotten me through quite a few crunches with brain still functional.

  11. I have to say that your musings these past couple of posts had me ready to call the guys with the white jackets and a tranquilizer gun. Just joking, Tazer does wonders for the short term memory thingy. ;)
