Plans...

So, the plan is to go shooting at Iggle Crick this AM. More wheelygun shooting.

Last weekend I started working more with my round-butt 4" Model 19. I had completely forgotten how sweet of a trigger job Shannon had done on that gun; the only lighter double-action pulls I've felt were on PPC guns, and yet it was lighting off everything I ran through it just fine: 158gr LSWC-HP +P from both Remington and Winchester, Federal 147gr +P+ HydraShoks, gunshow reloads from Billybob's Big House o' Bullets, you name it. Thanks, Marko!

Maybe after shooting we'll go by the Mountain of Geese or Beech Grove Firearms to check out the ammo situation.

  1. Tam, you've probably forgotten more about S&W revolvers than I'll ever know but I'd be a little afraid to run much hot ammo through a model 19. Seems like I've read about problems with a K frame 357 mag like the mod 19 with full power loads. Maybe most of the trouble was with hot 125 grain loads.

  2. Yesterday, Goose Hill had 9mm, .45 ACP, .40 SW, and a bunch of other good stuff in stock.

They also have a boatload of .223 if you're interested.

  3. Where did you get LSWCHP from Remington and Winchester? The only source I've found is Buffalo Bore!?

    I've a square-but 4" M19 whose trigger was worked on by Jack Fussilier. It's like glass. I don't think I've ever saw a round-butt verson. Was it convered from a square-butt?

  4. Right then.

We'll leave a space open for you & Bobbie at the NE Bloggershoot... see you at about 1100?

  5. Remington LSWCHPs might be marked LHPs. Remington in nickel cases LHP 158-grain +P, you'll find it on Midway usually.

Well, those are .38 Spl loads (there's no SAAMI spec for .357 Mag +P) so I doubt they're going to hurt a 19. Cracks in the thin spot at the bottom of a K-magnum forcing cone are usually associated with excessive firing of max-velocity 125- and 110gr magnum loads with jacketed bullets.

Smith did runs of factory 4" round butts for the Office of Naval Intelligence and the State Department. Mine's from the latter run.

  7. Ammo situation at local Casa de' Goose isn't much improved in my neck of the woods.

Ammo situation in Dillon 550 output bin is much improved, however.

  8. Gander Mtn. and Beech Grove Firearms near me were fine, so long as you weren't fussy about brand; prices coming down, too.

As far as the home ammo factory goea, I actually didn't even bother picking up my .38 Spl brass at the range this weekend, as I have several gallons of the stuff waiting to be loaded and it would just be pointless...

  9. On the ammo situation, I visited my FLD (friendly local gundealer) Saturday. I noticed he had his display window filled with ammo---of all calibers! Thirty-eight practice ammo (158gr lrn) was down to $15/50rds. There was even Federal Hydroshoks in .380 and .32. A least a dozen boxes of each. There was .223 and .308 plus a bunch of russian stuff. About the only thing missing was some surplus .30-06 for my Garand. And, the prices were down 10-20% for the most part.

It really made me glad to see it.
