I had lunch at Calhoun's with Staghounds yesterday and, as is traditional for my trips back to Knoxville, we went to that awesomest of used book stores, McKay's.
I managed to keep it down to a dull roar, but I still came away with two bags chock full of books, including the USMC close combat manual, a book called Biking to Work, and the first season of House on DVD.
Ohhh. I SO much miss Calhoun's AND Ed McKay's. Did you go to the one across from Nature's Pantry and did you have ribs or the pulled-pork sandwich?? Inquiring minds are drooling at the thought of either.
ReplyDeleteI did hear that Ed McKay's went downhill a bit when they moved to their present location but most of my mythology and folklore collection is from there.
I'm curious, how is "Biking to Work" much different than "Biking to School for six-to-nine years while carrying 40-lbs of Schoolbooks digging into your back and a goddamn trombone case, and dodging car-drivers in lousy weather?" :-)
ReplyDeleteYesterday's bon mot, following the arrival of a plate of chicken wings-
ReplyDelete"So, how many chickens did you kill for your momentary pleasure?"
"Looks like eight or ten. And I didn't kill them, just made them double amputees."
I'm sorry excuse the outburst.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty similar (minus the trombone case, unless your job is with a band.) ;)
ReplyDeleteSo did the owners of Calhoun's ever follow through on his promise to post his restaurants, and is the posting binding?
ReplyDeleteNo post that I saw.
ReplyDeleteIn Jr. High Band the cool guys play trumpet, losers play bass clef stuff.
