O.K., you saw them, I didn't see them. You saw what you saw.
However, THR and TFL and the rest of the Internet, including a blog you linked to, is plastered with photos and stories of Texans shooting without eye pro.
Anyhow, I've never seen anybody in Texas shooting without eye pro, but then I've never looked. I've seen people in Georgia, Tennessee, and Indiana do it, and so I surmise that Texans do, too.
So he says he made a mistake once and shot without eye protection, and even mans up and admits to it.
That little scar under my left eye, right on my cheekbone? I wasn't even in Texas when that happened. (158gr Deerstopper, shaved the jacket when a Rossi 971 carried up lazy on single action back in '94. I've been pretty religious about eye protection ever since....)
First, let me point out that the aforementioned incident without eye protection was back in 1989, and I was a ranch hand not yet 18 years old.
My shooting companion wore no glasses, but I had been wearing corrective eyeglasses for 8 years at that time, and simply had forgotten that other people need to don additional eye armor. Certainly my shooting buddies at the time all wore glasses. None of us wore the itty-bitty small glasses that are so popular these days, and just used our regular glasses for eye protection.
I couldn't speak to the majority of other shooters. I realy don't think about it. My daughters and my wife wear protective lenses when shooting, always.
I just don't get it. Why don't they wear eye protection down there? Some cultural thang or what?
ReplyDeleteSaw that every time I was in Texas.
I'm sure he'll do fine. Nervousness just shows concern.

And my ears still ring 30 years later from shooting my hot loaded 03A3 without ear protection.
ReplyDeleteWe all do dumb things on occasion.
( Oh, and getting kicked by those pointy elf-boots will show you why elves are terrific ... they inspire terror )
