This rings a bell for some reason that a fan lost a finger or two for being overly curious. I'd do a search for it but this appears to be a perilous thing to do!
I read something about a driver in a race in portugal finding a finger stuck in the wing of his car after the race, the macho culture there apparently giving rise to people proving their curage by touching the cars as they race by. That's probably the story he was searching for.
Not to mention possessed of a disturbing kink. :)
