It's the old "I'm failing spelling, so it must the fault of that kid who reads all the time for setting the bar so high. Hence, I'm justified in demanding his lunch money."

I could be wrong, but didn't even the vilest of oppressors usually stand to gain something by occupation? Lebensraum, resources, strategic location, safer borders, etc? Given that we've already got Gitmo and Haiti is on an island, does even one of these apply?
Can we trade the residents of Detroit for an equal amount of Haitians? I think the Haitians would do a better job running the place than those we have there now.
The irony is... if we were still a colonial power, they'd probably be better off in a couple generations. At least the buildings wouldn't fall down as easy.
