Me: "Look at that."
Gunsmith Bob: "What's that?"
Me: "Special Custom Shop version of the 75th Anniversary High Power. It's $10,500."
GB: "$10,500?!? Are they high? What makes it worth $10,500?"
Me: "Well, it's a limited edition, and... uh... it has an engraving of John Moses Browning on top of the slide."
GB: "I don't care if it's got a lock of his hair under the grip!"

Wonder what Colt is going to do for the 100th anniversary of the 1911 next year? Mas Ayoob reports on his blog from the SHOT show that Colt is re-introducing the Series 70 Lightweight Commander, which is pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt. I really love my Hi Power, but I'll stick with my plain jane Mk III that I bought used for about $400, thanks.
ReplyDeleteIt's Purty, but I don't think they plan on selling very many
ReplyDeleteI have two Hi-Power pistols; an ex-Israeli FNH and a Browning (Portugal) Mk2. I like 'em both but the beater FN is my car and carry gun if I have a place to carry it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like crap, with the black lacquer finish, but it shoots very, very well.
I like the HP but don't think I'll be spending 10 grand on one. Ack!

wv: worshe - how people clean their clothes out east.
Does it glow in the presence of gun control pundits?
ReplyDeleteDid you mention that the grips are carved from the True Cross? ;)
ReplyDeleteFor that price they better supply a year's worth of ammo and a factory trained technician (isn't that the usual phrase?) to strip and clean it after every range trip.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, JMB didn't have a heck of a lot of hair in most of his pictures, I suspect Locks might be a very rare commodity. I'd pay extra for some scruff from his mustache!
ReplyDeleteWas his the first "Tactical Mustache"?
Hmm, I bet you could kill some pretty nasty monsters with a pistol that had a lock of JMB's (pbuh) hair under the grip...
ReplyDeleteSorry, drifted off while drooling there. (Me want's it precious...)
ReplyDeleteI agree it's pricey (as in 10 times the combined cost of all my current Hi-Powers combined), but if I pull a winning lottery ticket....
Definite BBQ gun potential
Well, it does come with an extra magazine.....
ReplyDelete;-)

ReplyDeleteEven someone who owned a Dornaus & Dixon product wouldn't pay 10 grand for a spare magazine.
Grips made from the skull of John Browning at age 12?
ReplyDeleteIt's almost as expensive as a Rhododendronmaster-Masada.
ReplyDeleteBut it has an ambidextrous safety......
ReplyDeleteWeer'd I mentioned the samething outloud and the following was overheard:
ReplyDeleteRR: "A lock of JMB's hair? He really didn't have any."
RR's Significant Other: "Who said it came from his head?"
RR: "Yuck."

WV: repunt...the end is nigh?
If we had a lock of his hair, or skull, we could extract the DNA, then clone him. We then grow him at an enhance rate while downloading all that has occured in firearms design since his death directly in to his brain.
ReplyDeleteThen maybe he could explain why an ACR should cost $3k?
Gerry
Does it shoot 20 times better than the Hi-Power I have now? I don't see it, unless you have so much money that it just doesn't matter.
