Awww, who's the sad clown?

Is there any wine sweeter than the tears of Mayor Daley?

How does it feel to want, Dickie?

  1. Who's the sad clown? Who's the sad clown?

For some reason, I picture you saying this while rumpling his ears like he was a basset hound.

  2. Tee hee...

Oh, I'm sure when I hear the details there'll be lots to bitch about. But starting it off by thinking of poor, poor Mayor Daley and the setback to his campaign to keep all his widdle subjects safe is...good, I think.

  4. My favourite bit of Nino smarta$sery:

JUSTICE STEVENS must there fore have in mind some other use for the careful description requirement—perhaps just as a means of ensuring that courts “procee[d] slowly and incrementally,” post, at 25. But that could be achieved just as well by having them draft their opinions in longhand."

    Oops, didn't read far enough-

" For example, the historical analysis of the principal dissent in Heller is as valid as the Court’s only in a two-dimensional world that conflates length and depth. "chaird

For serious, Stevens' dissent is just crazy.

  5. Staghounds, I'm glad I'm not alone is reading the dissent.

Maybe Justice Stevens believes the Civil War did not transpire? To blatantly ignore the Framers of the 14th Amendment takes the efforts of a law school professor.

Based on the horde of Civil War deniers on the Intertubes, Stevens certainly has plenty of company.

  6. First line of the statement: "People will die because of this decision."

I can stipulate to that, and I say it's about goddamned time.

  7. "America's fading firearms industry."

It's not like we all ready didn't know these people live with their heads in the sand, this is just one more example.

Have they not seen the reports of record sales over the last two years?

I'm with you, Billy: It's high time that the law abiding folk get to shoot back. Good Hunting, Inmates of Mordor!

  9. Wait-- Which is it? Fading firearms industry? Or Uber-powerful Puppetmasters Of Lobbying, the Rich And Evil Firearms Industry?

At any rate, I've got three words:

    Sun. Yardarm. Somewhere.

  11. That's not what happened and you know it. The Civil War, as the McDonald decision, made abundantly clearn was about slavery and race.

I have the Framers of the 14th Amendment and yet another Supreme Court decision as authority.

The authority for your position just left the Senate and went off to meet General Early.

  12. Comrade E.B.-- From the Chicago Sun Times this morning:

"Chicago gun owners could be required to take a training course, register their firearms, allow police to perform ballistics tests and even purchase liability insurance.

Daley hasn’t tipped his hand on all of the specifics as he awaited the court ruling. But he has said to protect first-responders, he’s prepared to go above and beyond the replacement model crafted by Washington D.C. after its handgun ban bit the dust."

    ReplyDelete
  13. "Above and beyond the replacement model crafted by Washington D.C."

it is no wonder that only 900 handguns have been registered in D.C. since the ban was lifted. They have come up with such onerous provisions and hoops to jump through that most feel it's just not worth the huge hassle.

I can only imagine that Daley will be even more creative in enforcing a "de facto ban" now that his outright legislative ban has been tossed in the trashcan by the SCOTUS.

The court really needs to address the setting up of all these hurdles which deny folks the ability to own guns almost as surely as the legal ban did. To my mind they amount to a sort of "Jim Crow laws" type situation directed at would be gun owners. After all the court found that laws which EFFECTIVELY denied the right to vote without ACTUALLY denying the right to vote to be unconstitutional, so why not laws which EFFECTIVELY deny the right to gun ownership without ACTUALLY denying the right to gun ownership.

I think another spanking of D.C. over the administraive maze they have put in place is the next battle that needs to be taken up.

"The authority for your position just left the Senate and went off to meet General Early."

I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you. You were drowned out by the cheers of Ralston and D.C. Stephenson as they cheered the arrival of their brother from WEST-BY-GOD Virginny.

You were saying something to demonstrate your nuanced grasp of history, again?

  19. What I find interesting is that all of the comments left on the "Progressive" CommonDreams.org site (where you have to register to comment) are pro-gun.

I wonder if our "liberal" brothers and sisters are finally catching on, or if the site has been overrun by rabid wookie-suiters willing to go through the registration rigamarole..

  20. The best part about the sweet sad clown wine of Dickie Daily is the method of its extraction - by a crushing press that bursts the moist grape of his turgid carapace.

Justice Stevens nonsensical opinion might openly indicate he's really suffering from dementia, as another commenter at Snowflakees in Hell noted, "see his opinion in Johnson v. California (2005) where he insinuated that interracial rape and ethnic-gang violence in prisons is a “valuable-cross cultural experience” for inmates."
Insanely liberal in a multicultural kinda way...

  21. Civil War deniers? That's a new one on me. Revisionists and rewriters, I think is what you mean.

Then as now, the only thing worse than denying human and civil rights based on superficial criteria is the co-opting of those rights under color of doing magnanimous good, as a diversionary tactic for true, ulterior -and decidedly self-serving- motives and goals.

Huh; the more things change and all that.

  23. Ah, yes. Ralston and Stephenson. Classic indiana protestant democrats.
I don't think they're cheering too loudly, though, choking on flaming shit in hell.

  24. Good. It should suck to be Lord Farquaad (yeah, I know it was supposed to be Michael Eisner, but it applies equally to L'il Dickie).

  25. My guess is that this landmark decision feels about as good as a cold toilet seat in January to Comrade Daley. Good!

Sometimes, a good ol’ face slap of freedom is what’s needed to awaken the masses…

    ReplyDelete
  26. Tam: The Papists weren't conscripts, they made a LOT of money.

Arguably, the enlistment bonuses and pensions were what started the Irish and southern Germans up the ladder to middle class respectability.

That, and the memory of shared times on the battlefield among the majority of American men who served.

Those pension bucks sure as getout financed just about every Catholic college in the U.S., and built a neighborhood school system far superior to what government created, for less than half the money.

When the Americans beat the world champion Irish rifle team at Sea Girt (by one shot, accidentally fired on an American target at 900 yards), the roads were clogged for miles around the range, with Irish veterans, many of them amputees.

They were wearing their old uniforms and GAR pins, and waving American flags.

It's sweeter when you've bled for it.

  27. When we decided to move to the midwest after growing up on the East Coast, wife & I really wanted to live in Chicago, with friends & family living right there in Hyde Park (Obamatown), but the sky-high prices (five years ago), taxes, and anti-freedom undercurrent, plus I would have had to sell all my handguns (WTF!) I said no way, and we found oppertunity in Des Moines instead. I'm tolerant of most Dems, but: I wish a pox on the house of Mayor Dick.

  28. All Together Now!
    I heard the mayor cry
I heard him pray the day the gun ban died!
Brother what a fight it really was!
Sister what a sight it really was!
    Glory be!

    ReplyDelete
  29. The lunacy continues; "I'm disappointed by the decision, but it's not surprising," Daley said at a news conference. "We're still reviewing the entire decision, but it means that Chicago's current handgun ban is unenforceable, so we're working to rewrite our ordinance in a reasonable and responsible way to protect 2nd Amendment rights and protect Chicagoans from gun violence."
    Best,

I just read that press release. By way of comparison, I dug around and looked through the (admittedly small) collection of North Korean propaganda leaflets I found during my tour there in 1990-1991.

The votes are in and it's official: the DPRK has a firmer grip on reality than the VPC.

  31. Actually, those tears are coming from the fact that he finally has found out how it feels to have 300 million firearms shoved up his ass.

  32. So...he's taken a long position w/ firearms but he's still short shanks?

Shortshanks the sad clown. May his knife chip and shatter.

  34. Sensible Chicagoans will drive to the country and buy pistols, right now.

The only restrictions on them right now are the federal and state ones.

But in a few days, there will be tremendous hurdles.

    But I don't think he's a hippie.
