"Tactical" trousers, as Les Jones has pointed out, seem to be the (excuse the expression) Hot Topic of conversation among gun bloggers lately.
Peeking through the windows onto the range at CCA during the ICE training course a couple weekends ago, I remarked to Gunsmith Bob that "If I had a dollar for every cargo pocket out there, I could buy a new Glock."
It did look like fun, though...
I still like Brigid's "Tactical Bacon".
ReplyDelete"It did look like fun, though... "
ReplyDeleteYes, wearing pants is lots of fun. That's why monkeys should share in the fun.
Shootin' Buddy
I meant the class. I probably could have phrased that better...
ReplyDeleteQuoth Scrubs: "I like this outfit on a guy, because you can store makeup in the extra pockets. He's like a giant walking purse!"
ReplyDeleteIf new Glocks were $8.00
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't you take the class while your in Knoxville?
ReplyDeleteI'm about half way thru the latest addition of The Pincus new version of Combat Focus Shooting 2010.
It does a better job of explaining some things than the first version.

I'm kind of glad to see the "tactical pants" filter down to the civilian "gunny" crowd. They were the hot ticket for a couple of years with cops, and you could spot an off-duty officer a mile away due to his/her 511's or equivalent "plethora of pockets" pants.
ReplyDeleteHey, some of us started wearing absurdly-pocket-laden pants long before they were deemed "tactical".
ReplyDeleteAnd the only reason they were oversized was because I was kinda skinny. Yeah. That is it.
It's becoming an internet genre. Will you be caught wearing the "5.11 Tuxedo"?
ReplyDeleteActually, those are SIGTacs in my profile picture. :D
ReplyDeletePicked up a pair from the sale Uncle pointed to, and I like them. Only problem is the way the main front pockets are shaped, I'll have to make a new holster for the pocket pistol for it to sit right.
ReplyDeleteI was wearing cargo pants while I was still back in high school. But nowadays, I can wear 5.11 pants that last a few years, rather than JC Penny's pants that last six months before the material wears so thin it rips into shreds.
ReplyDeleteI really like cargo pants for their utility in swapping magazines, and in carrying a spare 20 round rifle mag when grabbing the carbine at Go Time. But it's a fact that I virtually only wear them at work.
ReplyDeleteI should standardize.
I ordered up some of those Covert Tactical 5.11 pants, in 30x32. As one reviewer stated, the length is about 1/2-3/4" longer than their standard tactical pants. However, the waist is probably 2" larger! Bummer. May have to look into having pleats sewn into the front to gather up the waist a bit.
ReplyDeleteThey have a much better expanding waist design than the standard pants do, and it looks better. If I had known, I would have gone for the 28" waist, since it seems it would be more comfortable if slightly undersize, than the original pants are. 'Course, that is predicated on this batch of pants being correctly marked. Possible they are missmarked 32".
Anyone have some info on this problem?
I'm guessing that doublestack .45 mags won't fit in the hidden mag pockets. I can get .40 s&w Glock, and .45acp 1911 mags into them, but it's a snug fit. So snug, that the mag bases keep them from going deeper, which is good, since I use short mags.
That hidden thigh pocket is mighty small, might keep a cell phone in it, or a folder, but not anything much wider. Really well hidden. If you loose the zipper tab you won't be using it, or finding it, for that matter. Just tried a full size 1911 mag, and it fits with wiggle room, but a Beretta 950 won't.
