I have been to two carnivals, a rodeo, and a state fair...

You don't know how long I've wanted to say that.

Anyhow, one of the coolest things I saw at the State Fair: Miniature Donkeys!

Adorable self-propelled autonomous lawnmowers! You would be the coolest kid at the organic locally-grown produce market, hauling your goods back home in a little cart drawn by a microburro.

I seriously thought about getting Bobbi to look into zoning regs...

  1. Manilla, Indiana?

Where the devil is that? Is that an island in the Wabash or the Ohio Rivers?

    Google awaits!

  2. Um, might check on their attitude first; I know some ponies are NOT a critter I'd want in the yard

  4. Oh, heck to the yeah. I'm trying to talk my folks into getting a pair and a cart to go along with them. They've got a big enough yard and could use something to take care of.

  5. We have two mini horses as pasture pets for my quarterhorse. They are evil incarnate. Like the cute little girl who murders her new adopted family evil.

Burros can be tough when they are full size. I don't want to think what they would be like concentrated.

    David - funny!

  6. Haven't seen any micro-burros around here, but we've got a handful of very reputable miniature horse breeders just down the road a few miles from my Alamo North branch. Cute little rascals, but I hear they are tough to house break.

Ever been awakened by a Rocky Mountain Canary? The micro version might be worse than that with a healthy dose of Munchkin vibe thrown in.

  7. Apparently the miniature donkeys are much more gregarious and docile than the full-size variety.

  9. Actually it's "A world's fair, a picnic, and a rodeo".

( I may have the order mixed though... no, that's it.)

  10. I have long contemplated the awesomeness of breeding mini-mules, using a miniature donkey jack and miniature mares. C'mon! Wouldn't that simply be EPIC?
Well, *I* think so anyway. :D

  15. It's the mini-donkey foals that make the Cute-O-Meter go sprang to Eleven.

  16. Mini-equines like attention and if you don't give it to them they can be mean. And confoundedly hard to re-gentle.

On the other hand, my blind friend who has had both swears mini-horses are superior to seeing eye dogs, being less likely to get their owners into trouble. They are hard on hardwood floors, though.

If someone really wanted an animate lawnmower, though, goats take less attention and do a neater job.

  17. Rather than donkeys, I would respectfully suggest mini-cattle, specifically Dexters, the "long-legged" Kerry variety to avoid some genetic problems.

High fat, prehomoginized type A-2 milk (the variety Europeans evolved on), massive milkers for their size, and first cousin to an Angus for steaks and chops.

Gentle as can be, winter doesn't faze them, and they fatten out on grass. One third scale sweethearts that taste great. Half an acre of decent alfalfa/clover per moo and your lawnmower service is up and running.

WV is, I swear to God, moogeou, which is, I presume, a cow patty after a gentle rain.

  18. A friend of mine has one, and says he's a sweetheart.

And if you get one, be prepared for jokes about your nice ass. Or your hairy little ass. Or your fat ass. Ad infinitum.

  19. As I recall, it's common to add "-ito" to words of Spanish origin to denote the diminutive.

    So..."Little Burro"="Burrito"?

  20. If you get one, you'll have to name it ForumTroll.

When it pipes up, it makes a hell of a lot of noise... and then you go look, only to find that it's only a little braying jackass out on the fringes of the property.
