West Coast Tacos: I rolled down to Broad Ripple Avenue earlier this week and grabbed six of these mini Korean-Mexican-Californian fusion taco thingies to split with Bobbi for dinner. Zesty and yummy, but tiny; three or four make a meal for a grown-up. I'm not sure what the secret ingredient is, but I suspect it's maybe crack because I can't think about them anymore without getting a mad craving.
Chocovine: Red wine and chocolate? Really? Shockingly, it works. It's like decadence in a glass; tastes kind of like a rich chocolate cream liqueur with a Cabernet finish.
Inception: If you haven't seen it yet, go. It's kind of like The Matrix, but for smart people. Yes, there are guns, but this isn't a shoot 'em up; it's a psychological thriller that just happens to have some mind-boggling action scenes. It is so full of detail, and so good on so many levels that I predict that if you ask me in a few years what my favorite movies of all time are, it will be near the top of the list.
Actually, red wine and chocolate is a pretty good combination - at least taken separately and concurrently. So maybe combining them isn't so goofy. Then again, port goes even better with chocolate.

Inception: meh
ReplyDeleteIt was well done, the action scenes were good, the visuals were good but I just found it somewhat predictable. Following the plot seemed not only easy but also easy to anticipate, even the very last scene wasn't too much of a shocker.
Apparantly though, I'm in the minority with that opinion so it shouldn't count for much.
Now that chocovine could actually be tasty, that a real shock.

The barbecue joint o' deliciousness in Santa Fe we pick up our dead animals from every time we drive through has fully embraced the Chocovine and offers a couple of summer cocktails involving it. I haven't tried any yet seeing as how we are always there on our way from some point A to another point B and never stay in to dine, but given the rest of their offerings I'd bet on them being winners.

Chocovie: I snickered at the idea but Tam made me try it -- not bad. I think it could be divine over frozen-coffee cubes but that could just be me.
My only beef with Chocovine is that they not only passed up the chance to call it "Choq au Vin"--they also probably ensured that anybody else making that pun would be stepping on their trademark. ;)

I saw Inception last night, and it actually did not suck.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed it much more than I expected to, and must point out that the previews do it a discredit with the concentration on the bending streets gag.
Part of what struck me, on the technical side of why the movie was a pleasure to watch, was of all things the sound mixing and engineering. As a guy who's got tinitis, I never had to ask my buddy what a piece of dialogue was, and the sounds of the shooting were quite good. (Though of course the silenced pistols were made to be awefully quiet.)
They glossed over the projected bit characters being so agressive and individually-acting without being constantly regenerating. Apparently, Hollywood movie directors' dreams are nothing like my own, where bad guys take shot after shot to the Xring without falling, if your gun will even work.
I have to disagree with Terry-- the plot was good.
Chocovine looked kinda narsty, so I gave it a pass.
I'm a fan of the Baja style taco. Different than our Texas style.
