An analogy about noses and faces springs to mind.

In Europe, millions have taken to the streets, marching in favor of free stuff and unsustainable government spending, as long as it's spent directly on them.

Meanwhile, here in Indianapolis, UAW workers at the GM stamping plant downtown refused to take a 50% pay cut, choosing a 100% pay cut instead. Solidarity forever, baby.

  1. In the late 80's, a local manufacturer announced that one of their two plants had to close. They were no longer selling enough to sustain both facilities. One was in Indiana or Illinois and the other here in Ohio. When the company announced that they would be looking at both to see which would be most beneficial as far as profits as well as to the impact on the local economy, the plant here in Ohio announced a strike. Decision made.

  2. Looks like the real-world choice is between austerity and Weimar. True, here, as well as in Europe.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

    Got gold?

  3. That plant is never going to sell to another manufacturer in a forced-union state. Never.

Most companies won't admit to union breaking, but they aren't going to walk into that nonsense.

  4. Actually, they have chosen a 99 week Unemployment check, plus their Union Benefits, plus all the Gov't Benefits that the Anointed One and his cronies (such as Free Money to stave off Foreclosure, Free Job Training, Obamacare, Utility Bill Reductions, etc.) forced down the Republic's throat. But since a lot of them didn't work worth a damn while they were sucking up $40.00 an hour Union pay, this will have no major effect on their lifestyle, and may in fact, cause an increase in Beer and Cigarette sales, actually generating Tax revenue for the State. Gotta love Socialism!

Of course, this is all Bush's Fault.

  5. Don't forget that these leaches can take their seniority to another GM plant and grab some other guy's job.

  6. That assumes there are other GM jobs to be had...

  7. Same thing happened to the local Dresser Wayne plant a dozen years ago. When the employees went on strike, Dresser Wayne shut down the plant for good. It stood empty until this year when the local college bought the land and tore down the plant in order to build a parking lot.

So the union managed to turn a couple hundred good paying jobs into a slab of asphalt for the local liberals to be to park their Priuses (Priusi ?).

Good job (I say that with all the sarcasm that a human can muster).

  8. "...to park their Priuses (Priusi ?)."

    I prefer "Prii". ;)

  9. "They've got a year to kind of wind this down and move all the dyes out and, of course, the employees will move to other GM opportunities,"

DIES It's not a textile mill!

  10. "We'll have to see what the qualities of that building are and what it could be repurposed for."

My guess is that those "qualities" will include some level of toxic chemicals.
