Went to the range for a little shooty therapy this morning.
There was a very sparse covering of .22 on the bottom of my rimfire ammo can, and so I dug into my emergency back stock of unplated .22LR and dumped in another 400 rounds. I still managed to use up every round in the can. I spent a fair amount of time with the 22/45 doing press-outs, as I want to be up to speed for the AFHF class in a month.
After running a few cylinders through the K-22, I depleted some of my stock of .38 Special, too, as it had been a while since I got in any serious amount of DA revolver shooting.
Not to sound all whiny and needy (or any whinier and needier than usual, at any rate,) but if anyone felt a burning desire to contribute to the Starving Artists' Ammo Fund in that open guitar case on the sidewalk to your right, it surely wouldn't be taken amiss, since this upcoming class is probably going to wipe out my carefully hoarded reserves of .45ACP FMJ.
When I am out of center fire anything, it becomes time to practice Zen relaxation techniques in front of the reloading press.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I need to see how I'm fixed for components.
ReplyDeleteI know I've got plenty of once-fired brass (as in a 5-gallon bucket or two) and I've got one or two thousand large pistol primers and at least a couple hundred bullets around here someplace. Powder's probably my weak link at the moment...
Isn't there a Zombie convention scheduled for your fair city this week?
ReplyDeleteAlways happens just as the ammo runs out, doesn't it?
That little gun shop near where near where I used to stop, just down the road from the grocery store.... can't think of their name. They always had a goodly supply of powder, if lacking in variety. a pound of Win 231 will load a LOT of .45acp, at 5.7 grains per.....
ReplyDeleteSort of a buleg then? :O)
ReplyDeletePres. Jackson won't go far towards that end, nevertheless he is forthcoming to contribute his meager share; can't afford to have any shooty artists starving.
Also, having left a few words at RX's as to Slinky's passing, I realize from your past post that you too were kitty-grieving, and not for the first time. So you know how it goes; as in all good relationships, the pleasure is worth the pain which time will ease, etc. etc. Platitudes, but true ones. Condolences, Tam.

Condolences on your kitty. For powder I would look at Ramshot Zip which is a good, cheap(er) powder for a wide variety of pistol loadin'. I feel your pain due my current brokage. If you need any brass let me know.
ReplyDeleteI do have some Hornady XTP .45 bullets that came free with the press. 185 gr. JHP. Or you could spend a day trip to pick up some Titegroup powder. I could come off a couple of pounds for the cause of snark!
ReplyDeleteAm I a bad person for using a Sharpy to draw smily faces on FMJ .45ACP?
ReplyDeleteHey, I never know what the normal folks will put up with, or maybe knock me down and kick me, instead.
Teeth and nails, baby. Go for their eyeballs.
ReplyDeleteSent you a C-note. Cannot stand the thought of you being low on ammo and since I wanted to ask you a gun question I thought I may as well pay upfront. The question is: If you had about $2K to get a AR15 clone to fire 55 grain bullets (since I have a small boatload) which one(s) would you recommend?
ReplyDeleteWhat would you mostly want to use it for?
ReplyDeleteMainly, target shooting out to maybe 300 meters. Possibly going to a carbine course. And, of course, as an anti-zombie rifle (LOL)
ReplyDeleteWell one of us got the Tremors 3 line.
ReplyDelete"Mainly, target shooting out to maybe 300 meters. Possibly going to a carbine course. And, of course, as an anti-zombie rifle..."
ReplyDeleteIn that case, I'd probably go with the following:
A 20" flattop with a fixed front sight from a "name" manufacturer: eg. Colt or S&W or whoever, preferably sporting a 1:9 twist tube (versatility!), given your preference of burning up 55gr ammo. Go with the optic of your choice and a good rear BUIS.
Obviously if you wanted to play in high power or benchrest matches or kick down doors for a primary purpose, things would probably be different...
It's not a 20 inch, but this is pretty close to what Tam is talking about. You can use the left-over cash that you didn't spend on the rifle to get a good optic *coughACOGcough*.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ma'am. As soon as I get back from the land of dirt and car bombings (Iraq) I'll see what is available. I don't know how much longer this contractor gig will last, but at least it let's me get some nice toys.
