The Rifle, Anti-Tank, .55in, Boys shown below was on the table of the guys from Ohio Ordnance Works, home of the semiauto M-240 and regular attendees at our local Indy 1500 gun shows.
The nearly pristine Japanese Type 99 light machine gun slightly behind it and to the left can be yours for the low, low price of $12,500!
BONUS! Boys Anti-Tank Rifle Training Film!
The stuff you can find on the intertubes...
Sigh!
ReplyDeleteWV: lebusear. New secret trademarked sear to magically improve trigger qualities?
Well, let me know if you need it picked up. Only a half hour from my house. ; )
ReplyDeleteI remember reading a British soldier's account of riding in a motorcycle sidecar in North Africa, armed with a Boys .50, chasing a German vehicle (or motorcycle) and trying to hit it.
ReplyDeleteHe was bouncing around too much, and he just ended up with a black-and-blue shoulder.
You are a true aficionado - you left out the sometimes-appearing and always-annoying apostrophe.
ReplyDeleteYou are having a dream of a week for many of whom you have never met. By all means, enjoy!
Is that a MG34 right behind it?
ReplyDeleteJoe,
ReplyDelete"Is that a MG34 right behind it?"
Yup. And a Degtyaryov DP28.
How much for the Ma Duece poking its barrel between the Boys' bipod legs?
ReplyDeleteJebus, Tam ... you found the one weapon that has more expensive ammo than a Lahti.
ReplyDeleteMany owners convert theirs to .50 bmg ... no longer a DD, and ammo is almost affordable.
Ah, Disney animates a crowd of cleverly camoflauged canucks using their Boys to complete clobber Adolph's armored attack. Good stuff.
ReplyDeleteWhen watching those fellows touching off that monster, am I the only one thinking, "Ouchie!"? Even more:
"I'm sorry, but let me see if I've got this right. You want me to schlep this 40 pound hunk of iron around, then, when I see a panzer, sit down in front of it and wait until it's within 100 yards to TRY to shoot it in a vital point??? Are you nuts???"
You won't see patriotic stuff like that on Disney anymore. When Walt died, political correctness won.
ReplyDeleteAny details on the BAR, the muzzle of which is just inside the right of the photo?
ReplyDeleteAncient Woodsman,
ReplyDeleteI dunno. Ohio Ordnance is kinda the "home of the BAR", since they're the only people I know of making semi-auto repros.
Judging by where it's sitting, though, that one's the real deal. There's a transferrable Group Industries M1918 on their site for $22,500, so that might be it.
@Woodsman: We have a crispy, beautiful unfired Group Industries BAR up for sale on Gunbroker for $19,500...and for the man who must have everything there's an original Boyt manufacture leather BAR scabbard to mount on the side of your Jeep for another $600. Cheap!
ReplyDelete@Tam: Jap 99...the poor-man's BREN! Cheap shootin' too if you can find one of the 7.62x39 conversions that uses AK mags...the much lower recoil also helps save on breakage.
Unfired? Even if I had the bucks, and bought it, I'd feel like I was raping a virgin if I chambered one round and fired it.
ReplyDeleteJustthisguy,
ReplyDeleteIt's a Group Industries BAR; it's not like it's a WWII original.
That.was.awesome.
