No, not the computer game, the storm that collapsed the roof of the Metrodome.
Luckily, we're on the southern fringe of that, and so snowfall totals aren't supposed to be much worse than 4" or so. The 30mph+ wind gusts are making things lively, though. Bobbi and I ran an errand to Target and the place was crawling with intrepid Christmas shoppers; on the drive home, we had about one block's worth of visibility...
You did buy bread and milk, right? Despite never actually, you know, eating them, apparently that's the norm for those late evening, OMG, snow is coming trips.

ReplyDeleteIf you lose the power, I may be out of town, but let yourself into the range (you have the security code) and hunker down with the heat on. Outside of an occassional realtor, it should be quiet.
Have fun with it, Tam. It was real pretty while it falling, but shoveling 2.5 foot drifts was another story, and my Jeep couldn't get through it either. Ow, my back.

ReplyDeleteWe got close to 20 inches here in our part of Minnesota.
South of the Metro area.
2 and 1/2 hours shoviling and blowing snow this Am and then they finally plowed the roads about 3:30 this afternoon and my eldest and I went out and cleared that with the neighbors help as the damn muffler fell of my snowblower!!
I;ll fix that this week I guess..
Temps will be subzero for the next few days and nights also...
Why do I not flee this State??
I did notice an interesting side effect of the massive storm. My little blog has had about twice the normal traffic for a Sunday. It makes perfect sense when you look at the map on Sitemeter though.

ReplyDeleteI imagine you don't flee for one of two reasons. First, your wife's family is there, or second, you just really feel like a contributing citizen as you pay your fair share, plus, in state taxes. I mean, how many other states would ask you to pay that much in taxes?

I lived in Minneapolis '82 to '84. My company had us park on the south Metrodome parking lot. I recall the first snow of the '83 season was 12" the day before Thanksgiving, and then, too, they were concerned about snow on the Metrodome roof. On bright dude on the snow shovel crew on the inflated roof found a way to slice through. Unfortunately he didn't live to benefit from the experience. That was the event that gave rise to the ball caps with a Metrodome top - and a tube you could blow on to inflate and deflate the hat dome.
Living here in Perth, I spent the day at the beach playing volleyball. Great day with temps in the 90's till the sea breeze came in and cooled things down.

ReplyDeleteWe got the wind down here, but not the snow. The wind made the Appleseed I went to this weekend a bit interesting. The gusts were moving my muzzle around when standing or kneeling, and we were constantly chasing after shooting mats, targets, and some of the lighter shooters...
