The hit dog yelps.

What's the matter, Detective Sipowicz? Truth hurt?

  1. Better be careful that Mayor-For-Life Hosni Bloomburg doesn't send out a couple of his Homemade Batfeieio Wannabes out to Indy and try to buy something from you.

  3. I wouldn't worry too much about it. More cops surf the web at work than at home since all our new systems are web based(not that its ok on duty). Probably laughing along with you Tam than plotting agin ya. Sorry if I'm stepping on any anti-authority vibe:)While there are quite a few blowhards who think they put the E in elite(nepotism and cronyism are alive ans well), the far majority of the 400+ mos unit are your solid no nonsense types. The unit handles more non-armed response conditions(cat in tree, stuck elevator,EDP,building collapse etc.)than many city fire departments. As for the amount of gun handling necessitated by their workload I'm surprised that ND's are so low. Much of the e-lite attitude I find is a top down belief, most supervisors do not have ESU experience before promotion, but are trained to a lesser degree than the people they supervise. I bet you have a lot of fans here Tam, keep up the good work. BTW having guarded Bloomy a few times I can say with some experience that he likes us less than a Arizona gun show dealer, and the feeling is mutual.

  4. Hartford CT is a liberal armpit, but every street cop I know there votes Republican for lack of anything further toward reality.

    Son One, who I believe is the most decorated serving officer on the force at the moment, comments that he's known too many cops who had their lives saved by some storekeeper with a 12 gauge, and is slightly to the right of me on most issues. And I ain't exactly a pinko.

    So think of how you've penetrated the NYPD and found 5th column brethren and sistren there, and gloat discreetly.

    Skip a stone across the pond often enough and you never know where it lands.

  7. Keeping your finger off the trigger is something that is only learned with time, repetition and KEEPING YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER!!!
    I was running some Army MPs through a small-arms simulator a few years ago and keept seeing light trigger pressure on the same guns (M9 and M4 carbine...they were pretty good with the M240B and the AT4).
    The guys who had zero violations all had one thing in common...they shoot recreationally and in practice for self and home defense.

    Had this talk with a few Dallas sherrif's deputies the other night...they all agreed.

    Cops need to be brought into the popular gun culture. It's the only way they'll learn that we're not (generally) the bad guys and will help cement the safety rules in their heads.

  8. I believe anon 1:18 is for real, and that he's right. Most of the cops who hung around my gun counter were the detectives and brass, so they tended toward older. With a few exceptions, they were conservative pro-gun and personal defense...they knew enough, had seen enough, and were just old enough to be un-pc enough...to be able to seperate good citizens from bad with accuracy; I very much felt a kinship with them, and I think they with me.

    I do think it's different now; LE psych-eval has devolved to the point of many street-level cops having all the critical thought and discretion of your average TSA drone. And I think there's more to it than misguided pc; the same programming being done in universities is being crammed into LE "training" and testing, to what ends I will leave open to speculation.

    But as to your visitor and your subsequent commenter, I choose to believe that they are us...or at least, as I think is true of many who are trapped in places like NYC and the Mass, they yearn to be us.

    And it is very heartening to hear from Ed Foster that his son is living proof that there are younger and very dedicated and heroic people in law enforcement who still apply individual logic and reason and empathy and humility to a tough job that increasingly is populated with those whose mutual attraction to authority and power and blind obedience is ruining not just the perception of and relationship with those that they are ostensibly sworn to serve, but the profession itself.

    IF you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
    If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;
    If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
    Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
    Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
    And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
    If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
    If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
    If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
    Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

    If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
    And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;
    If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
    And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

    If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    ' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
    if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
    If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
    Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
    And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

  12. "Us is not geography, just a mindset. Anon 1:18"

    Kipling's admonitions are tough to follow in today's world, even in far less complicated endeavors than LE...like Tam, I am glad some good men are hanging in there. Thank you.

    Continuing a recent and profound meme:

    I am Anon 1:18.

    Anon 1:18 is me.

  13. Don't worry, he's probably just having to build a Homeland Security email update and has to put SOMETHING on it. He can't mention Islam or Muslims or its the end of his career so its off to the gun blogs to keep track of dangerous extremists!
