SIGarms is for some reason offering a special "Semper Fi USMC" version of the P238, just like Dan Daley carried when he went over the top at Belleau Wood. Or something.
What, exactly, the relationship is between bitty little .380s and the United States Marine Corps isn't fully explained, actually.

As a US Marine, I am going back and forth between wanting one and being insulted. Insulted is winning by a landslide. The Teufel Hunden deserve something a LOT meaner than a pip-squeek little .380. Don't get me wrong, I own a P238 for those times when I need a little something in my pocket and a bigger gun is not possible (which is almost never), but I don't revere it as a tool for war.
ReplyDeleteI am also wondering if they got the ok from the USMC for this since the Eagle Globe and Anchor do not seem to be on it anywhere. Without the Marine Emblem, it's not really very attractive as "US Marine" schwag anyway.
I guess some will like it, to each his own, but I'll take a pass.

I've been seeing those around, and I share the "WTF" thought as well.

But that stretch of my imagination doesn't really work out too well, see as the P238 isn't even a Government Model clone.
So my money is the poser market.

Does not the U.S. Military still issue a personal sidearm to those who have crawled over the rotting corpses of those they have backstabbed on their way to the top when they reach the rank of General? And for decades, was not that sidearm a Colt .380? And, I know it's a movie, but did not George C. Scott (playing the role of George S. Patton) tuck that General's Issue Colt.380 into his waistband (without a holster in the Belly Position! ONe can DIE doing that!) as a backup up, and did he not try to shoot down that pair of Heinkels with that self-same Colt .380? Or was it a Colt in .32?

ReplyDeleteYou jogged my memory, Tam. That P238 could be used as a hideout gun. A friend gave me a 7.5mm Lefaucheux pinfire cartridge when I started cartridge collecting 50 yeas ago. His father took the revolver and cartridges off a German officer in WW I. It was a tiny folding trigger revolver and looked like this one as best I can remember.

Pattons Remington model 51 was a gift from Gen K' Joyce ; it was engraved and had custom grips with stars

Just bought a P238 for my wife, came with night sights, 5 mags, paddle holster and 200 magsafe rounds.

As a former 0331, I am really confused by this offering. As others have said, where's the EG&A? .380? I'm not a commemorative guy at all but if you're going to make a commemorative USMC handgun, why not a battered to shit 1911 with sand from Suribachi in it and maybe an accompanying entrenching tool or some old rations?
